PUCRS Is Accepting Applications for the Raízes Program, Which Offers Full Scholarships for On-Site Undergraduate Programs for Black, Brown, and Indigenous People. The Initiative Aims to Promote Inclusion and Accessibility in Higher Education, Ensuring Opportunities for Those Who Need It Most.
The Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) reinforces its commitment to diversity and social inclusion by opening places in its Raízes Program, which is now in its fourth edition. The initiative offers full scholarships for on-site undergraduate programs for Black and Indigenous students in a situation of social vulnerability. Applications are open until October 15 and cover more than 40 undergraduate courses, all aimed at admission in the first semester of 2025.
Opportunity for Access to Quality Education
To participate in PUCRS’s Raízes Program, applicants must meet a series of requirements, such as taking the National High School Exam (Enem) between 2020 and 2023, with a minimum score of 600 points for the Medicine course and 400 points for other courses. Thus, it is necessary to reside in Porto Alegre or the Metropolitan Region and prove a situation of social vulnerability, with a family income per capita of up to one and a half minimum wages.
The Raízes Program seeks not only to offer places but also to provide an inclusive and welcoming academic environment, facilitating access to quality higher education for those who have historically had fewer opportunities. By guaranteeing full undergraduate scholarships, PUCRS takes an important step toward equity, increasing the chances for Black and Indigenous students to enter the university and complete their education.

How the Selection Process Works
The selection process for the full undergraduate scholarships of the Raízes Program consists of two stages. First, applicants need to register on the PUCRS website by October 15, 2024, submitting the necessary documents to prove their eligibility. This documentation includes proof of income, ethnic self-declaration, and school records.
After the approval of this first phase, pre-selected candidates must register for the Summer Vestibular at PUCRS, by October 29, 2024, through Modality II, which uses the Enem score. It is important that the candidate has a good score on the Enem and has not received a zero on the essay to ensure their participation in the selection process.
The final result will be announced on December 10, 2024, when the approved candidates will be called for enrollment. The start of classes is scheduled for February 2025, marking the beginning of a new academic journey for the future university students.
