About the Petrobras REFAP Refinery in Rio Grande do Sul

The Alberto Pasqualini Refinery (REFAP) of Petrobras is connected via pipelines to TEDUT (Almirante Soares Dutra Maritime Terminal) in Osório, where it receives crude oil, and to TENIT (Niterói Terminal) in Canoas, on the banks of the Gravataí River, where it transports derivatives to the industries that make up the Southern Petrochemical Hub in Triunfo.

A characteristic of Refap is its huge area for storing raw materials and finished products (known in the industrial sector as “tanking capacity”), which makes it the largest refinery in terms of occupied area at Petrobras. This storage area is due to its strategic position, close to important borders (Uruguay and Argentina) and the potential difficulty of supply during a time when Brazil was heavily dependent on imported oil.
