Renovated model abroad features hybrid engine, good trunk space, and generous ground clearance, but remains without guarantee for the Brazilian market, while Renault reorganizes its local strategy and keeps the current Duster in line with sales considered relevant for the national operation.
Even though it has already been presented in other markets, the new Renault Duster still has no confirmation for Brazil, despite the 160 hp hybrid configuration, 518-liter trunk, and 21.2 cm ground clearance.
In an interview with CBN Autoesporte, Ariel Montenegro, president of the Renault Geely group in Brazil, acknowledged the commercial strength of the SUV in the country but did not confirm plans to launch the new generation in the Brazilian market.
The response leaves open the future of one of Renault’s most well-known names among compact and medium SUVs, precisely at a time when the brand is reorganizing its local operations.

Sold in Brazil since 2020 in its current generation, the Duster underwent a facelift in 2024 and continues to be offered without receiving the deep renewal already seen in the third generation presented abroad.
New Renault Duster in Brazil has not yet been confirmed
Among the factors that help explain Renault’s caution is the performance of the current model, which still sustains a relevant clientele and maintains space within the automaker’s national portfolio.
According to Autoesporte’s investigation, Montenegro stated that the Duster maintains a solid consumer base and records an average of over 1,000 units registered per month in the Brazilian market.
This result reduces the pressure for an immediate replacement and helps understand why the brand does not treat the new generation as a confirmed priority for the short term.
The lack of an official announcement does not represent a cancellation, but shows that the renewed SUV is not yet at the center of Renault’s local strategy at this moment.
In recent moves, the automaker has focused efforts on a new phase of products, marked by more recent models and the partnership with Geely, which influences the next industrial and commercial steps of the Brazilian operation.
With this reorganization, the space for a launch based on a global project associated with Dacia is reduced, a path that marked part of Renault’s history in emerging markets.
In Brazil, the company seeks to strengthen its own identity for its new SUVs, rather than relying solely on models derived from the Romanian operation, as occurred in previous cycles.
Even in this scenario, the Duster remains an important asset for the brand, especially due to the recognition built among consumers who associate the model with robustness, interior space, and a mixed-use proposal.
The decision on a new generation involves more than just replacing the product sold in stores, as it would require price positioning, engine definition, industrial adaptation, and fitting into an increasingly competitive range.
Hybrid SUV has a more modern look abroad
In its third generation, the Duster gained more visual and technological content but preserved the SUV proposal with a robust appearance and focus on functionality, a characteristic that has always been part of the model’s image.
Presented by Renault in India, the SUV features a new front, LED headlights, taillights connected by a light strip, and the name Duster prominently displayed on the front grille.
The Indian version also received unique elements compared to the Dacia Duster sold in Europe, with logos, finishes, and body details created to differentiate the configuration marketed under the French brand.
In terms of dimensions, the project maintains proportions close to the European model and bets on measurements that reinforce the family-use proposal, without abandoning the image of an SUV prepared for rough terrains.
Renault reports in India that the new Duster has a ground clearance of 212 mm, equivalent to 21.2 cm, which is relevant for those seeking an SUV with good height from the ground.
Another important data point is the 518-liter trunk, a capacity highlighted in the Indian market specs and aligned with one of Duster’s historical arguments, which has always prioritized a functional cabin and aptitude for travel.
E-Tech 160 hybrid engine draws attention
Among the configurations planned for the Indian Duster, the E-Tech 160 is the most attention-grabbing, as it combines electrification with a usage proposal still close to that of a conventional SUV.
According to Renault India, the setup uses a 1.8 gasoline engine associated with a 1.4 kWh battery, a solution developed to allow electric mode driving in part of urban use.
On the model’s engine page, the manufacturer reports a power of 163 ps, torque of 280 Nm for the Turbo TCe 160 engine, and details of the E-Tech 160 hybrid architecture.
This system combines a combustion engine, battery, and electrified transmission, forming a configuration that seeks to enhance efficiency without turning the Duster into a fully electric vehicle.
The hybrid technology appears as one of the main attractions of the new generation, especially because it reinforces the mechanical update of the SUV in a segment increasingly pressured by energy efficiency.
Renault’s press material for India also confirms that the new Duster marks the local debut of the Hybrid E-Tech 160 system, based on a 1.8 engine and a 1.4 kWh battery.
According to the brand, the technology allows up to 80% of driving in electric mode in urban conditions, although this result depends on the measurement cycle and real usage conditions.
Despite the technical appeal, there is no clear indication that this engine will be offered in Brazil, nor any official announcement about local production, importation, or adaptation of the hybrid system for the country.
Renault’s strategy favors other projects
In the Brazilian operation, the scenario indicates a greater focus on products linked to the new local structure and cooperation with Geely, a movement that reshapes how Renault intends to compete in the market.
Ariel Montenegro’s interview with CBN Autoesporte reinforces this view, as the executive treated the Duster as a still relevant product but did not present a timeline or commitment to bring the new generation.
This positioning creates an unusual situation for the SUV, which remains competitive enough to continue in the lineup, although it is far from the technological update already available in other markets.
While the current Duster maintains sufficient sales to justify its presence in the portfolio, the gap to the new international generation tends to become more evident with the expansion of the hybrid version.
For the Brazilian consumer, the most immediate effect is the longer presence of the current model in a segment where rivals advance in connectivity, safety, energy efficiency, and electrified versions.
Renault, on the other hand, seems to assess that immediate replacement is not indispensable, as the SUV sold in the country still fulfills a commercial function within the national range.
Without an official announcement, the new Duster remains a distant possibility in the short term, although the 160 hp hybrid generation already exists abroad and gathers competitive specifications.
While the brand reorganizes its more strategic launches in Brazil, the decision on the arrival of the new Duster remains without public confirmation from Renault.
