Renault's first hybrid SUV arrives in South America with cutting-edge technology: Arkana E-Tech Hybrid combines a 140 hp turbo engine, mild hybrid system and innovative features. Is Brazil ready for this new product?
Renault has taken a bold step into the South American market by launching its first hybrid SUV, the Arkana E-Tech Hybrid, in Argentina. Scheduled to hit stores in March, the model promises to combine sporty style with advanced technology. But will this new product cross borders and make its way to Brazil?
What is the Renault Arkana E-Tech Hybrid?
The Arkana E-Tech Hybrid is a European-designed coupe SUV that exudes sophistication. The version launched in Argentina, called Esprit Alpine, has a sporty look, maintaining the characteristics we already know in Europe. But what really catches the eye is under the hood: a mild hybrid system that is new in the segment.
With bold lines and a profile that combines elegance and dynamism, the Arkana is one of those cars that you notice on the street. The sporty look of the Esprit Alpine version reinforces the visual appeal of the SUV, making it an attractive option for those looking for a sophisticated and functional design.
- Fiat Mobi 2025: The compact revolution with the 1.0 Firefly engine that retired the classic Fire in Brazil
- In the R$83 range, the VW T-Cross 1.0 TSI does 17 km/L with a range of 691 km and beats rivals in the automotive market
- Fiat Fire Engine: The first computer-designed engine that revolutionized the industry and now retires after 40 years
- Costing less than R$35, Fiat's popular car beats current models in the automotive market with a consumption of 13,5 km/L
The star of the Arkana is the mild hybrid system, which combines a Starter-Generator (BSG) with a lithium-ion battery. This set offers features such as Sailboat Mode, which switches off the internal combustion engine when decelerating between 30 and 140 km/h, reducing fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The system supplies power to equipment such as air conditioning and lighting, ensuring efficiency in all aspects.
1.3 turbo engine and advanced transmission
Under the hood, the Arkana has a 1.3 turbo gasoline engine, capable of delivering 140 hp of power and a torque of 26 kgfm. The seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, similar to the one used in the Brazilian Kardian, ensures fast gear changes and a smooth ride, ideal for everyday urban use and travel.
Thanks to the mild hybrid system, the Arkana can deliver impressive performance without sacrificing economy. Sailboat Mode and other technologies help significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions, making it a sustainable choice in times of growing environmental concern.
Arkana in Brazil: Expectation or dream?
Although some Arkana units have been spotted testing in Brazil, it is unlikely that it will be launched here. This is because Renault is developing a new SUV for the Brazilian market, using the Kardian platform. This new mid-size model promises to better meet local demands.
However, the Arkana's mild hybrid technology is being tested in Brazil and should equip future launches, such as the Niagara pickup and possibly the Kardian itself. So, even if the Arkana itself doesn't arrive, it paves the way for a new generation of Renault vehicles in the country.
Does Arkana represent the future of Renault in South America?
The Renault Arkana E-Tech Hybrid symbolizes a new era for the brand in South America, bringing cutting-edge technology and an impressive design. Although its arrival in Brazil is uncertain, the model's impact can already be felt, especially due to the advancement of mild hybrid technology in the local market.
Will Arkana will open the doors to other hybrid models of Renault in the region? One thing is certain: Renault is accelerating towards the future, and the South American market will not be the same.
