There is still no confirmation from Toyota, despite a statement from the brand’s president, Akio Toyoda, last year. The executive stated that he wished to see a new Celica and, at the time, some rumors suggested that the triumphant return of the Toyota Celica could be as an electric car. However, new information suggests that the story will be very different.
According to publications from Japanese media, the brand may already have a new 2.0 turbo engine with high performance of around 400 horsepower, which may work with all-wheel drive, like the GR Corolla and Yaris. This is expected to be the setup for the new Toyota Celica in the automotive market, also relating to the success achieved by the model in the WRC in other decades.

The History of the Toyota Celica
With the triumphant return of the Toyota Celica to the market soon, it is important to mention that this emblematic vehicle, which is one of the most famous and appreciated sports coupes of the Japanese brand, was originally born in 1971.
The model was initially launched with a 1.8 VVT-i engine producing 143 hp and 172 Nm of torque, but a year later, a more powerful T-Sport version was added, capable of reaching 192 hp and 180 Nm.
It improved the acceleration time of the base model by 1.5 seconds and was also faster, reaching 225 km/h instead of 205 km/h.
The Toyota Celica T23, with front-wheel drive in both cases, offered a fuel consumption between 11 and 12.5 km/l in calm driving, and it was also not heavy, weighing about 1,175 kg, depending on the version.
