Government of Rio de Janeiro Wants to Improve Logistics and Wants the Vitória-Minas Railway to Reach the Port of Açu
Thinking about a logistical development to capitalize its economy, the state of Rio de Janeiro wants the Vitória-Minas railway to reach the port of Açu, in the northern Fluminense region. To this end, the Department of Transportation will propose to the federal government that the funds that Vale had to spend on the early concession of the Carajás and Vitória-Minas Railways be used for this project.

Delmo Pinho, transportation secretary of Rio, informed that the grant to be disbursed by the mining company Vale is estimated at R$ 4.2 billion.
Production Outflow:
According to the state government, the Port of Açu will have a significant impact on the outflow of agricultural production from Embrapa in the central-east region, which includes areas of Minas Gerais and Goiás.

Another action by the government of Rio de Janeiro wishes to expand the railway logistics in the state and seeks federal government assistance for MRS Logística in its initial renewal project, including the implementation of a rail branch between the city of Nova Iguaçu and the Petrochemical Complex of Comperj, located in Itaboraí.
Pinho added that “this is the most important moment in 30 years for the infrastructure of the State of Rio, which will define our future. We must invest in what is structural.”
