The Duplication of BR-153, Scheduled to Start in 2025, Promises to Revolutionize the Region’s Infrastructure. With an Investment of R$ 410 Million, the Project Includes Marginal Roads, Overpasses, and Bridges, Improving Safety and Reducing Logistical Bottlenecks.

Brazil is on the verge of witnessing a transformation historical in one of its most important highways, but the details of this endeavor still hold surprises.

Behind impressive numbers and promises of infrastructure improvement, an ambitious duplication project promises to revolutionize transportation in the country.

What is at stake is more than safety and mobility: it’s the future of entire cities that depend on these roads to develop.

Duplication of BR-153 and the First Steps in 2025

With an estimated investment of R$ 410 million, the duplication works on BR-153, managed by Ecovias do Araguaia, are set to begin in 2025.

The section to be duplicated encompasses 53.44 kilometers between Anápolis in Goiás and the border with Tocantins, passing through important cities such as Uruaçu, Campinorte, Rialma, and Rianápolis.

The expectation is that the works in this phase will be completed by October of the same year.

According to the concessionaire, this project is part of a larger schedule that foresees the duplication of 448.54 kilometers in the state of Goiás by the end of the contract, which will extend for 35 years.

Direct Impacts for Drivers and the Economy

According to Ecovias do Araguaia, the benefits of this intervention are already clear. Between January 2023 and October 2024, the sections under its administration registered a 35% decrease in the number of fatal accidents.

Additionally, the duplication of the highway promises to improve the flow of goods and passengers, reducing logistical bottlenecks such as traffic jams and ensuring greater efficiency in the transportation of goods.

The section, which was once considered one of the worst in Goiás, has already received improvements to the asphalt and will be expanded at various points, highlighting the construction of two overpasses, three bridges, nearly 30 kilometers of marginal roads, and four new accesses.

A Technical Look at the Project

In an interview with Jornal Opção, transport infrastructure specialist Urubatan Silva Tupinambá Filho highlighted that the contract signed between Ecovias do Araguaia and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) foresees the duplication of 623.3 kilometers.

This figure represents more than half of the total of 850.7 kilometers under the concessionaire’s responsibility.

Tupinambá emphasized the importance of prioritizing sections with higher traffic, such as the segment between Uruaçu and Anápolis, to reduce accidents and improve logistics.

“The more you segregate pedestrians from vehicles, ensuring the best transit for both, the better the highway will be,” he stated.

He also suggested complementary interventions, such as footbridges, overpasses and underpasses, and stopping points for truck drivers, essential for making the road safer and more efficient.

Projections for the Future of BR-153

The schedule presented by Ecovias do Araguaia divides the duplications into two main phases.

The first, covering 357.9 kilometers, is expected to be carried out between 2025 and 2032. The second, involving the remaining 265.5 kilometers, will take place between 2041 and 2047.

Furthermore, the project includes urban improvements, such as roundabouts and marginal accesses, aiming to integrate the highway with the cities it crosses.

These interventions are seen as crucial to strengthen the connection between the states of Goiás and Tocantins, promoting regional development.

Social and Economic Impact Works

BR-153 plays a strategic role in the national economy, linking the North to the Central-South of the country. Its duplication will not only provide more safety for drivers, but also increase the capacity for transporting goods, strengthening agriculture and other productive sectors.

Moreover, the reduction in the number of fatal accidents reinforces the importance of interventions like this to save lives and promote more efficient traffic.

After all, will this project fulfill its promises?

Despite the progress already made, the adherence to the schedule and the effectiveness of the works depend on the precise execution of the project.

With the start of interventions scheduled for 2025, it remains to be seen if Ecovias do Araguaia will meet the expectations of drivers and businesses that rely on BR-153 for their operations and travel.

What do you think? Will the duplication of BR-153 transform logistics and safety in the region, or do the challenges put the success of this project at risk?

É… o Brasil só tem um problema: as estradas. Não há mais outros problemas para o cidadão, fora este, graças a Deus. Vamos dar o dinheiro dos impostos aos pobres coitados das empteiteiras, eles estão precisando!
