Lastly, Samsung plans to launch, by 2025, GDDR7 memories for artificial intelligence processing in low-power devices, which are also ideal for ultra-compact servers. To meet this urgent demand, it is crucial for each vehicle to have its own integrated server. The expectation is that new LPDDR5X modules will be available on the market by 2024, offering storage capacities ranging from 2 GB to 24 GB, speeds of up to 68 GB/s, and an 8.5 Gbps bus per channel, taking up only half the space of current models.
Samsung’s AutoSSDs, with speeds of up to 6500 MB/s and storage capacities of up to 4 TB, enable storage virtualization, allowing the same SSD to be used for the various SoCs present in autonomous vehicles. Additionally, being removable facilitates the maintenance and updating of vehicles. **These technological innovations promise to revolutionize the automotive industry and the way autonomous vehicles are equipped.**
To enable this type of progress, it is expected that the number of sensors installed in these cars will increase significantly, resulting in a rise in the number of operations per second (OPS) from 24 trillion to up to 1 quadrillion. Samsung announced during the 2023 Investor Forum in Hong Kong its interest in standing out in the automotive component segment. The company shared information about its new LPDDR5X memories, removable SSDs, and GDDR7 memories for AI GPUs, which aim to increase the processing and learning capacity of autonomous vehicles.
