São Paulo concentrated 202,374 formal jobs between January and April, accounted for 29% of the national balance in the period, and also recorded the highest average admission salary in the country, in a movement mainly driven by the services sector.
São Paulo created 202,374 jobs with a formal contract in the first four months of the year, almost 2,000 per day, according to data from Fundação Seade based on Caged, from the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
Jobs in São Paulo drive national balance
The result placed the state in the national lead in formal job creation. Between January and April, São Paulo accounted for 29% of the jobs created in Brazil, which totaled 699,762 positions in the same period.
In April, São Paulo’s balance was 20,202 jobs, equivalent to 24% of the 85,888 opportunities opened in the country. In the 12-month total, the state reached 232,224 positions, compared to 1,059,860 in Brazil.

The numbers indicate broad formal expansion, with concentration in services and significant participation in the recovery of São Paulo’s regional employment.
Average admission salary leads the country
In addition to the highest job balance, São Paulo recorded in April the highest average admission salary in Brazil, of R$ 2,693.01. The amount was 13% above the national average, calculated at R$ 2,386.56.
Following are the Federal District, with R$ 2,518.09, Santa Catarina, with R$ 2,427.82, and Rio de Janeiro, with R$ 2,370.83. Among the regions, the Southeast had the highest average value, of R$ 2,548.35.
The remuneration in São Paulo is impacted by factors such as the state minimum wage, set by the Government of São Paulo. The minimum wage will reach R$ 1,874 in 2026, with an increase of almost 50% during this administration.
Services concentrate hiring in April
The services sector was the main driver of hiring in April, with 20,393 positions. The highlight was transportation, storage, and mail, which opened 8,651 formal positions in the state.
Public administration, defense, and social security, education, human health, and social services also played a significant role, with 7,157 positions, in addition to information, communication, and financial, real estate, professional, and administrative activities, with 2,268.
The general industry followed, with 2,530 positions, driven by the manufacturing industry, responsible for 2,168. Construction created 2,033 positions, while agriculture, livestock, forestry production, fishing, and aquaculture totaled 1,011 positions.
