In Brazil, the context is even more restrictive. According to attorney Raquel Paneque, a specialist in Business Law, the incorrect use of these vouchers represents an act of impropriety and can lead to termination for cause. “If the worker buys items like selected beverages, furniture, or uses the card for loans, they risk being fired,” she explains.

Brazilian Legislation Defines Limits For Meal Vouchers

Although optional, once granted, the benefit must follow specific rules. The meal voucher, for example, must cover expenses with ready-made meals during work. Meanwhile, the food voucher is intended for the purchase of items in supermarkets. Attorney Gabriella Maragno further emphasizes that selling the credits of the benefits is prohibited and may be considered fraud.
