A Chinese Sedan With Surprising Range, Futuristic Design, and Price Below Competitors Is Shaking Up the Electric Vehicle Sector. Cutting-Edge Technology, Bold Colors, and the Latest Official Data Reveal a Bold Bet for Global Markets.
New Electric From Leapmotor Bets on Competitive Price, Futuristic Design, and Advanced Technology
A new sedan electric promises to shake up the Chinese and global automotive market with its impressive range of up to 650 km and price lower than the BYD Dolphin Mini.
The model is the Leapmotor B01, officially launched in China at the end of June 2025 and already considered one of the most competitive in its category.
The Chinese automaker Leapmotor, which became part of the Stellantis group in 2023, launched the sedan with three versions of electric motors, robust range, and sophisticated design.
The B01 was presented with prices starting at 150,000 yuan, which is approximately R$ 114,000 in direct conversion, not considering taxes and import fees.
With this price, the model costs less than the BYD Dolphin Mini, which is currently the cheapest electric car from the brand in Brazil, sold for R$ 118,800.

Volkswagen admits to Reuters that the value of its cars is falling in Brazil due to the aggressive entry of Chinese companies like BYD, but asserts that it will not enter a price war and believes it is well-positioned to hold back the advance.

Used BYD Dolphin Mini becomes a standout among semi-new cars by selling in 15 days, surpassing HB20, Onix, and Polo in stores, and showing that used electric cars are gaining strength in the Brazilian market in 2026, according to a survey by Indicata released in April.

Toyota launches Wigo cheaper than Fiat Mobi, Citroën C3, Argo, Polo Track, HB20, and Onix in Brazil, with a 1.0 three-cylinder engine, 5-speed manual transmission or CVT, and rear camera in the top version; the urban hatch shows an entry-level Toyota that Brazilians don’t have in the Philippines.

Medium-Size Dimensions and Generous Space
The Leapmotor B01 has generous dimensions and positions itself as a mid-sized sedan, with measurements that place it alongside the Toyota Corolla.
It measures 4.77 meters in length, 1.88 meters in width, 1.49 meters in height, and 2.73 meters in wheelbase.
This means it is larger than the Corolla in every aspect, except for height, which ensures more comfort for passengers and greater interior space for luggage and legs.
The Toyota Corolla, for comparison, measures 4.63 m in length and 2.70 m in wheelbase.
Modern Looks With Futuristic Inspiration
Aesthetically, the Leapmotor B01 adopts the clean and technological style typical of Chinese electrics.
At the front, the sharp LED headlights are connected by a daytime running light (DRL), with lines reminiscent of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
At the rear, the setup follows the same minimalist line, with thin taillights connected by a light strip.
Above these taillights, there is an element that simulates a spoiler, reinforcing the sporty appeal of the car.
The automaker offers the B01 in eight different colors, with bold options like pink and purple, aiming to attract the young urban audience, seeking visual differentiation and bold style.
Three Electric Motors and Two Powerful Batteries
The new sedan from Leapmotor arrives on the market with three options of electric motors, all with rear-wheel drive.
The entry-level version, still without all the details revealed, will have 134 horsepower.
The intermediate configuration comes with a 177-horsepower motor and a 56.2 kWh battery, allowing range of up to 550 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle.
The top version features 215 horsepower and a 67.1 kWh battery, which ensures up to 650 km of range also in the CLTC cycle, a more optimistic standard than the European WLTP or the American EPA.
It is worth noting that the range data was officially disclosed in June 2025 and follows the Chinese standard, but still impresses within the category.
Modern Platform and Ultra-Fast Charging
The Leapmotor B01 is built on the Leap 3.5 platform, compatible with 800-volt electric systems.
This technology allows for ultra-fast recharges, similar to those seen in premium models like the Porsche Taycan and the Hyundai Ioniq 6.
According to the automaker, it is possible to charge from 30% to 80% of the battery in about 18 to 20 minutes, which represents a significant advantage for urban and highway use.
However, this time depends on local infrastructure and the availability of fast chargers.
Advanced Technology and Assisted Driving
The model also stands out for its technological offering, with one of the most comprehensive driving assistance packages in the category.
The B01 features 11 cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, making up a cutting-edge ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
These systems allow for level 2+ assisted driving, with urban and highway cruise control, adaptive speed control, autonomous braking, and lane keeping.
In addition, the model is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8650 processor, which integrates the intelligent driving system with real-time environmental interpretation capability.
Technological Interior Focused on Comfort
Although the main focus is on performance and driving technology, the interior of the Leapmotor B01 also deserves attention.
The sedan features an integrated multimedia center with a digital dashboard, responsive interface, and smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
There are also voice commands, a premium sound system, and intelligent assistants, as well as comfortable seats with electric adjustments and dual-zone digital air conditioning.
These features align the model with other more expensive sedans in the premium segment.
Global Strategy and Possible Arrival in Brazil
Leapmotor has ambitious internationalization plans, and its partnership with Stellantis may accelerate the arrival of the B01 in markets such as Brazil.
Although there is still no official confirmation, executives from the group have already expressed interest in bringing the brand’s models to Latin American countries in the coming years.
If the B01 arrives here at a competitive price, it could become one of the main accessible electric sedans in the country, facing models such as the BYD Seal, the Caoa Chery iCar, and the upcoming Volkswagen ID.7.
Even with the application of import taxes, freight, and profit margins, the sedan could maintain a price below R$ 200,000, which would still make it an appealing alternative for those seeking electrification with comfort and performance.
The Leapmotor B01 brings together attributes that make it one of the most promising electric launches of 2025.
With modern design, wide range, ultra-fast charging, and cutting-edge onboard technology, the Chinese sedan arrives with the potential to compete not only in the local market but also globally.
Its competitive price — even lower than the Dolphin Mini — reinforces the aggressive strategy of Chinese brands in the automotive sector, which continue to challenge traditional manufacturers with bold and well-crafted solutions.
