The Social Gastronomy School Ivens Dias Branco (EGSIDB), a public facility of the Secretary of Culture of Ceará (Secult) managed in partnership with the Dragão do Mar Institute (IDM), offers 230 spots for seven free vocational courses in September. Enrollment for the selection process for free courses can be done on the school’s website and this is a unique opportunity for those who dream of improving in the field.

In the free vocational courses, students will develop essential skills for a culinary career. With a comprehensive curriculum, participants will be able to navigate the rich food history and apply innovative practices in modern kitchens.
Upon completing the free courses, participants will be ready to contribute in various gastronomic environments, from creating memorable dining experiences at restaurants to managing and innovating in food businesses.

The free vocational courses at the Social Gastronomy School will be offered in two class cycles, being:
Cycle 1 (September 16 to 20 – Classes):
- Commercial Savory Pies (in-person/evening);
- Artisan Breads (in-person/evening);
- Sandwiches and Hamburgers (online/evening).
Cycle 2 (September 23 to 27 – Classes):
- Street Food: Regional Dishes (online/afternoon);
- Planning and Operation of Mobile Buffet (online/evening);
- Salads and Dressings (in-person/evening);
- Commercial Desserts (in-person/evening).
To participate in the selection process for the free courses at the Social Gastronomy School, candidates must be at least 17 years old, including adults and seniors, and must be available to attend classes in the morning from 8:30 AM to 12 PM, in the afternoon from 1:30 PM to 5 PM, or in the evening from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.
How to Compete for Spots in Free Vocational Courses?
Enrollment in the process must be done on the Social Gastronomy School’s website, and the results will be published on the same site and on the school’s social media. Spots in the free courses will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, following criteria established in the public announcement.
Select candidates will be contacted via WhatsApp, so it is important to pay attention when filling out the form. The team responsible for selection will not accept registrations with incomplete data, outside the established deadlines, or not in accordance with the terms of the manual.
According to Selene Penaforte, superintendent of the facility, the monthly short-term training encourages reflection on the food production chain and enhances both the knowledge and local inputs.

Meet the Gastronomy School
As a facility of the Secretary of Culture of Ceará (Secult), the Social Gastronomy School Ivens Dias Branco (EGSIDB) is managed by the Dragão do Mar Institute (IDM) and is part of Cultura em Rede, a Secult Ceará program that integrates actions and cultural policies within its network of public facilities.
The training center, inaugurated in 2018 in the Cais do Porto neighborhood (Fortaleza), is a training space that combines teaching, research, and social commitment, recognizing the richness of the way Ceará people eat, the various types of knowledge, and the production chain, promoting product innovation, encouraging social entrepreneurship, qualifying for the job market, and contributing to the fight against hunger, through free long and short-term courses held at the school headquarters and in the interior of Ceará.
