Senai Inaugurated This Week Its Unit Specializing in Renewable Energy in Rio Grande do Norte, Gaining Media Attention for Its Wind Tunnel Laboratory
On last Tuesday (15), World Wind Day, the SENAI Institute of Innovation in Renewable Energies was inaugurated in Rio Grande do Norte. The unit promises to bring solutions aimed at boosting Brazilian sustainability by reducing costs and creating more efficiency in the distributed generation of the renewable energy market, including both wind and solar energy.

According to Amaro Sales de Araújo, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, the state is a national leader in wind energy generation and hosts the largest investors in the sector. Additionally, the new SENAI unit aims to support these companies not only from Rio Grande do Norte but from all Brazilian states.
It promises to bring various innovations to add value and transform projects that were previously problems into solutions. According to Emerson da Cunha Batista, regional director of SENAI/RN, the Institute is part of the actions of the Center for Gas and Renewable Energy Technologies (CTGAS-ER), the SENAI unit that trains labor for industries.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Meet SENAI Unit Specializing in Renewable Energy
The ISI-ER is part of a network made up of 26 Innovation Institutes that were established by SENAI across the country to meet the diverse needs of the industry. The inauguration took place on this day to emphasize the importance of wind energy.
The unit, located in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, will be the main reference for SENAI in research, development, and innovation focused on wind and solar energy.
The Wind Tunnel
Among the greatest highlights of SENAI’s wind and solar energy unit is the Wind Tunnel, the first laboratory to meet the demands of Brazil’s wind sector. It conducts research, provides anemometer calibration services, and also enables performance evaluation of structures.
When the wind energy-focused laboratory begins its operations, it will reduce logistics time by at least 3 months for companies conducting their services abroad, in European countries.
The Wind Tunnel will collaborate with renewable energy and sustainability laboratories at SENAI. The operations are developed by teams of researchers formed by meteorologists, engineers, chemists, and geographers. Rio Grande do Norte, which was chosen as the headquarters, is one of the largest producers of wind energy in Brazil and is also the state with the highest expected capacity for the coming years.
