Sergipe Stands Out at COP 30 by Proposing Innovative Initiatives for Green Hydrogen and Renewable Energy, Reinforcing Its Leadership in the Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in the Northeast
On November 10, 2025, the state of Sergipe stood out at COP 30, held in Belém (PA), by presenting two strategic projects focused on green hydrogen, the green economy, and biome restoration. According to an article published by G1, the conference, considered the main global forum on climate change, brought together world leaders, experts, and civil society representatives to discuss sustainable solutions in light of the climate crisis.
Green Hydrogen: Sergipe’s Bet on the Energy Transition
Sergipe presented initiatives focused on the production of green hydrogen and the recovery of the Caatinga, positioning itself as a national reference in environmental innovation and sustainable development. The proposal reinforces the Brazilian Northeast’s role as a protagonist in building a new clean and inclusive energy matrix.
The production of green hydrogen was the main highlight of the Sergipe delegation at COP 30. The fuel is obtained through the electrolysis of water, using renewable energy sources like solar and wind, without the emission of greenhouse gases. This technology is considered essential for decarbonizing the economy and meeting global climate targets.

After 14 years of construction and a diplomatic crisis that nearly led to a military confrontation over control of the Nile, Ethiopia inaugurated the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa — the dam is 170 meters high, holds 74 billion cubic meters of water, and generates 5,150 megawatts.

Brazil strengthens partnership with Germany and directs billion-dollar investment to green hydrogen in the Northeast, boosting energy innovation, increasing industrial competitiveness, and consolidating real opportunities for regional sustainable development.

While Brazil sets records in solar and wind energy, the electrical system shuts down power plants every day because the transmission lines can’t handle it — and the losses have already exceeded R$ 5 billion in three years.

While the world still relies on polluting and slow energy, the island of Samsø in Denmark has started producing 40% more energy than it consumes, with 11 turbines, projects of up to 40 million euros, and a sustainable revolution built by just 4,000 inhabitants.
Sergipe has unique competitive advantages to lead this transition. The state has high solar and wind potential, as well as strategic port infrastructure for export. According to Governor Fábio Mitidieri, Sergipe presents itself at COP 30 as one of the main actors, highlighting the potential of the Northeast to lead the transition towards a green economy.
Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development in the Northeast
The green hydrogen proposal presented by Sergipe at COP 30 is part of a broader movement for energy transformation in the Northeast. The region, historically marked by inequalities, is now positioning itself as a strategic hub for innovation and sustainability.
The energy transition drives sectors such as education, infrastructure, and technological research. In addition, the use of renewable energy contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, improving air quality and strengthening national energy security. Sergipe, with its structuring projects, assumes a leadership role in this process.
Recaatingamento: Ecological Restoration and Social Inclusion in Sergipe
The second project presented by Sergipe at COP 30 is recaatingamento, aimed at recovering the native vegetation of the Caatinga. The program seeks to reverse environmental degradation caused by decades of deforestation and improper land use, promoting ecological restoration and social inclusion.
The proposal includes planting native species, sustainable management, and training for family farmers. In addition to recovering degraded areas, the project promotes income generation, water security, and strengthening local communities.
Sergipe also presented in Belém the Conservar-SE project, aimed at strengthening Conservation Units and environmental recovery in the 75 municipalities of the state. Furthermore, it carries the Dialogar program, focused on environmental education, and the Sergipe Green Economy Plan (PSEV), which directs public policies in the areas of bioeconomy, renewable energy, and other sustainable initiatives.
The restoration of these areas is essential for preserving biodiversity, mitigating the effects of climate change, and ensuring ecosystem balance. Recaatingamento also contributes to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to terrestrial life, clean water, and decent work.
COP 30: Sergipe as a Reference in Environmental Governance
The COP 30, held in Belém, marked a historic moment for Brazil by hosting the world’s main climate event for the first time. The choice of the capital of Pará reinforces the importance of the Amazon and Brazilian biomes in combating the climate crisis.
During the event, Sergipe participated in plenary sessions, technical meetings, and multilateral agendas, presenting its projects to investors, international organizations, and representatives from other countries. The visibility gained may attract strategic partnerships and international funding to make the initiatives feasible.
Additionally, the state was recognized as a leader in environmental sustainability in the Northeast, according to a ranking by the Public Leadership Center (CLP), which reinforces its credibility and execution capacity. Active participation in COP 30 strengthens Sergipe’s image as a model of climate governance and green innovation.
Green Economy and Opportunities for the Future
The projects presented by Sergipe at COP 30 represent a new paradigm of development, based on green economy, technological innovation, and social justice. By investing in green hydrogen and biome restoration, the state demonstrates that it is possible to grow sustainably and inclusively.
The green economy promotes the generation of skilled jobs, strengthens the clean industry, and values natural resources. In addition, it stimulates scientific research, environmental education, and the participation of civil society in the construction of effective public policies.
Sergipe can also benefit from the growing international demand for sustainable products and services. The export of green hydrogen, for instance, could become an important source of revenue and position the state as a global player in the clean energy market.
Sustainability as a Development Strategy
Sergipe’s actions at COP 30 demonstrate that sustainability is not just an environmental agenda, but a strategy for economic and social development. The projects for green hydrogen and recaatingamento are concrete examples of how well-structured public policies can transform realities and generate positive long-term impact.
The sustainable future of the Northeast relies on initiatives like these. With strategic vision, environmental commitment, and execution capacity, Sergipe is consolidating itself as a national and international reference in building a new energy matrix and restoring Brazilian biomes.
COP 30 was just the beginning. The challenge now is to transform the projects into concrete actions, with active participation from society, technical support, and adequate funding. Sergipe is ready to lead this journey towards a greener, fairer, and more resilient Brazil.
