BNDES will finance the construction of 7 of the 14 wind power plants in the Ventos de São Vitor wind energy complex. In addition to generating thousands of jobs for Bahia, the wind farms will be able to generate 235 MW of power

Seven of the fourteen new wind farms will be built after funding from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), in the wind energy complex of São Vítor winds, located in the municipalities of Xique-Xique, Itaguaçu da Bahia and Gentio do Outro. In addition to generating jobs, the wind farms will have the capacity to produce 235 MW of power and when all the work is completed, it will be able to generate up to 465 MW. The wind energy complex in Bahia, when completed, will be able to generate enough energy to meet the demand of 1 million homes.

Construction of wind farms in Bahia will create 1.200 new jobs

Another very relevant point with the BNDES financing will be the creation of 1.200 direct jobs during the installation of the wind farms in Bahia, contributing to the quality and conditions of life in the region.

According to data from the Associação Brasileira de Energia Eólica (ABEEólica), the HDI of municipalities that have projects like these had an average growth of 20% compared to the others.

BNDES support will be granted to seven SPEs (Specific Purpose Entities), controlled by Essentia Energia, a renewable energy platform of the infrastructure fund, which is managed by Pátria Investimentos. The bank's financing for the construction of wind energy units, which will create several jobs, will be up to R$ 655 million.

BNDES financing will focus on the purchase of wind energy equipment

The SPEs will install and operate seven wind power plants, namely: São Vitor 1, 3, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14, of the total that make up the wind energy complex in Bahia, about 550km from the capital.

In addition to generating new jobs, the project, which has the support of the BNDES, has as its main focus the purchase of 38 wind turbines produced in the national territory.

A large part of the BNDES' financing will go towards the acquisition of wind energy generation equipment, thus the bank encourages the product's sales chain in the country. The other expenses of the wind power plant project are linked to civil works, which will generate several jobs. The projection is that the wind power plants will start operating, for the commercialization of clean energy, already at the end of this year.

Bahia is vice leader in the generation of wind energy in the country

Bahia is the second state in Brazil with the highest installed power from wind sources, in addition to the projects that are still being built. The state has great potential, both near the coast and inland.

Currently, of the 19 GW generated in the country, 17.5 come from the Northeast region. Bahia generates 5.4 GW, which greatly contributed to the country's departure from the water shortage that occurred in the last year. In addition, the state contributed to the country's energy security and also to its supply from a clean, competitive and renewable source. Bahia avoids the use of thermal plants, thus avoiding the emission of CO2 and reducing costs for the final consumer.
