Sinop Energia Donates 15 I-RECs and Offsets Carbon Emissions at Tedi Horse Equestrian Center in Sinop During the State Championship and Throughout the Year, Promoting Clean Energy.
Sinop Energia made the donation of 15 I-RECs, helping to offset carbon emissions during the State Equestrian Championship held at Tedi Horse Equestrian Center in Sinop. This initiative not only contributes to the sustainability of the event but also promotes the use of renewable and clean energy sources in our society.
Additionally, Sinop Energia, as a company committed to sustainable practices, ensured carbon emissions neutrality at Tedi Horse Equestrian Center throughout the year. This gesture reaffirms the company’s dedication to promoting sustainable actions and raising community awareness about the importance of environmental preservation. Through efforts like these, Sinop Energia strengthens its role as a leader in promoting clean energy.
Sustainable Commitment of Sinop Energia
Sinop Energia will offset the carbon emissions resulting from energy consumption from the electricity distribution network of the Tedi Horse Equestrian Center in Sinop. The venue will host a stage of the State Championship this weekend, on September 28 and 29. The company donated Renewable Energy Certificates – known as I-RECs -, issued by the Hydroelectric Plant (UHE) Sinop, which is owned by the company. These certificates guarantee that the energy produced by the Sinop Hydroelectric Plant is renewable and clean, and adheres to international standards for tracking environmental attributes of energy. In total, 15 I-RECs were donated. Besides offsetting carbon emissions on the competition days of the state stage, this amount of certificates will allow for offsetting at Tedi Horse throughout the year.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
Sustainability in Focus
Now more than ever, it is essential to think sustainably. For this reason, Sinop Energia is strongly committed to promoting practices aimed at an increasingly sustainable future. Through the I-REC, we can stimulate a clean energy matrix and, consequently, a healthier planet. ‘It is our commitment to act in favor of reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions’, stated Ramon Carvalho, CEO of Sinop Energia. The I-REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) is issued in Brazil by Instituto Totum. The certificate allows for the verification of energy origin, also contributing to various companies and events achieving sustainability goals. These components are essential for the energy transition in the sector, enabling a parallel market to electric energy, in addition to aiming to expand the national and international energy matrix with low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. ‘It is a new market, and we are ready to operate in it.’
Expansion in the International Market
Recently, Sinop Energia completed its first I-REC operation for a foreign company based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In addition to this international operation, the company has already conducted two other certificate issuances for companies based in Brazil, as explained by Sergio Aguiar, the company’s administrative and financial director. Regarding the I-REC, the I-REC Service is a global system for tracking environmental attributes of energy created to generate international standards for carbon accounting in Scope 2. The certificate allows companies and electricity consumers to consciously and verifiably choose a renewable energy source. The certificates are sold along with the generated energy and can be acquired by certified companies committed to sustainable development and mitigating GHG emissions. Each I-REC is equivalent to 1 MWh of energy.
Profile of Sinop Energia
