New Stellantis Factory in Betim (MG) Will Produce Cars with Hybrid and Electric Technology, Creating 400 Direct Jobs and More Than 2 Thousand Indirect Jobs Until 2030

Stellantis Automóveis Brasil received, this week, the approval for a loan of R$ 241.8 million from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). The financing will be applied directly at the company’s factory in Betim, Minas Gerais, for the development and production of hybrid and electric vehicles.

The announcement was officially made this Wednesday (12) by the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante. The goal is to encourage technological and sustainable advancement of the national automotive industry, strengthening the Brazilian production chain.

Stellantis Will Invest in Three Hybrid Models and One Electric Until 2030

The project financed by BNDES provides for the development of three new hybrid architectures, combining flex (ethanol/gasoline) engines and electric motors. A fully electric platform is also planned, positioning Stellantis as one of the pioneers in large-scale automotive electrification in Brazil.

The project financed by BNDES also brings good news for the generation of jobs in Minas Gerais. The expectation is for the immediate creation of 400 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect jobs in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, especially in the city of Betim, where Stellantis’s factory is located.

These new job positions will be directly linked to the development and production of hybrid and electric vehicles.

“Bio-Hybrid” Technology Will Be Highlighted in Betim

One of Stellantis’s main bets for the Brazilian market will be the so-called “Bio-Hybrid” strategy, which foresees the simultaneous use of electric motors and flex engines compatible with ethanol and gasoline. This technology takes advantage of the Brazilian energy matrix, which is one of the cleanest in the world due to the use of ethanol as a renewable fuel.

The president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, highlighted the importance of this technological innovation for Brazil:

“The Stellantis project brings to the country a new generation of hybrid and electric vehicles. This initiative strengthens the entire Brazilian automotive production chain, making our industry more competitive and sustainable.”

Stellantis Increases Investments in the Brazilian Market

Stellantis is currently the fourth largest automotive group in the world, bringing together 14 international brands, such as Fiat, Jeep, RAM, Citroën, and Peugeot. In 2023, the company sold approximately 6 million vehicles globally and maintains factories in over 30 countries.

With this new investment from BNDES, the group reinforces its presence in the Brazilian market, where it is already a leader in sales with popular brands like Fiat and Jeep, especially with vehicles produced at the Betim factory.
