Pop Mart Suspends In-Store Sales in the United Kingdom After High Demand for Labubu Toys Causes Chaos and Sold Out Stock in Minutes
The “monstrinhos” craze has taken over the United Kingdom. Fans camped overnight in front of stores. The demand for Labubu toys was so high that Pop Mart, the company responsible for the sales, temporarily suspended in-store sales in the country.
Created in 2015 by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, Labubu is a plush toy with colorful fur and sharp teeth. The item became a global success after going viral on social media.
The Chinese company Pop Mart, which holds exclusive sales rights, has already made over US$ 2.3 billion from the product, according to Forbes magazine.

The high demand has led to scenes of chaos. Long lines and camping outside stores have become common. Some consumers even reported physical fights while waiting. The British broadcaster BBC reported on the conflicts, but Pop Mart denied the incidents.
With stocks sold out in just a few minutes and in light of the crowds, the company decided to suspend in-store sales in the United Kingdom.
In a statement shared on social media, Pop Mart said: “To ensure the safety and comfort of everyone, we will temporarily suspend all sales in physical and robotic stores of The Monster plush toys until further notice”.
The price of Labubus varies according to the model and size. In Brazil, Pop Mart does not operate directly. Therefore, purchases are only possible through importers and resellers.
Despite the access difficulties, the craze shows no signs of letting up. Fans continue to seek out the rare items from the collection, which have become highly coveted.
Pop Mart’s decision to halt in-store sales underscores the impact of Labubus’ success worldwide.
What Explains This Success of Labubu?
The success of Labubus comes from a combination of striking visuals, limited editions, and strong social media presence. Created by Kasing Lung, the little monster has become a must-have item among collectors.
Viral videos have driven demand, generating lines, resales, and speculation. Pop Mart’s exclusivity further intensified the sense of scarcity.
