Offering luxury and sophistication at more affordable prices than a new Renault Duster, the Ford Edge stands out as an excellent option in the used SUV market. With prices below R$ 60 thousand, the model is increasingly attracting drivers in 2024, delivering an impressive fuel consumption of 12.7 km/l, in addition to a vast list of standard equipment that even surpasses some current models. The highlighted version in the automotive market is the Ford Edge Limited 3.5 V6 AWD first generation, which made a significant impact in the global market upon its launch, establishing itself as a reference in performance, comfort, and technology.

History Of The Ford SUV In The Automotive Market

The luxury SUV from Ford has stood out in the automotive market since its launch in 2006. Developed by the American brand, the Edge was designed to offer a combination of comfort, technology, and performance.

The first generation of the Ford Edge was launched in 2006 and quickly became a success. With a modern and bold design, Ford’s SUV featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine capable of producing 265 horsepower. The average fuel consumption was approximately 8 km/l in the city and 12.7 km/l on the highway.

Among the highlights of this Ford SUV are the spacious interior, with capacity for five passengers, an advanced entertainment system with a touchscreen, and safety features such as stability control and front and side airbags.

Is The Ford Luxury SUV Still Worth It?

The model arrived maintaining the 3.5-liter 284-horsepower V6 engine with 34.5 kgfm of torque, a 6-speed AT transmission with a torque converter. In terms of performance, it delivers a 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.5 seconds. The Ford Edge also received new accessories to remain competitive in the market.

The Limited version comes with all-wheel drive and an optional sunroof, and Ford implemented an entertainment system with DVD in the front seatbacks featuring two seven-inch screens and a built-in media player, as well as wireless headphones, remote control, and auxiliary and USB ports.

Factory-equipped, the Ford SUV comes with accessories such as dual-zone digital air conditioning, parking sensors, leather seats with the front ones featuring heating and electric adjustments, onboard computer, door opening via buttons or remote control, six airbags, electronic stability control, traction and roll-over prevention AdvanceTrac, hill start assist, and tire pressure monitoring sensors.

What To Notice When Buying The Ford Edge?

Even though it is a luxury SUV from Ford bringing various benefits, the Ford Edge, like any other car, has its issues. A known chronic problem of the model is with the transfer case, where the effort and heating of the transmission fluid compromise the proper functioning and lifespan of this component. Preventive maintenance helps avoid this problem.

It is important to mention that, despite being cheap, maintenance is more delicate and labor-intensive, as the car has several sensors that require skilled labor. If the previous owner was not careful with the vehicle, it may bring some drawbacks to the current owner. Using the wrong oil, low-quality fuel, and neglecting preventive maintenance can cause even more issues in such engines.
