Suzuki Ertiga costs around R$ 47,000 in India, seats 7 people, has a 1.5 engine, CNG option, and expandable trunk up to 803 liters.
While the Brazilian market has practically abandoned affordable family minivans to focus on increasingly expensive SUVs, India continues to sell 7-seater models at prices that seem unreal when converted to the Brazilian reality. One of the strongest examples is the Suzuki Ertiga, a family minivan that offers three rows of seats, a 1.5 engine, mild hybrid option, CNG version and great internal modularity for a value equivalent to about R$ 47,000 in direct conversion.
Sold by Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, the Ertiga starts at approximately ₹8.97 lakh in its Smart Hybrid line. At the current exchange rate, this represents something close to R$ 47,000 without considering Brazilian taxes, freight, approval, import, or market margins. Even so, the value draws attention because it is far below family models sold today in Brazil, including Chevrolet Spin, Citroën Aircross, and Caoa Chery Tiggo 8.
Suzuki Ertiga bets on internal space and modularity to transport up to 7 passengers
Unlike many compact SUVs currently sold as family cars, the Ertiga was born as a true MPV. The project was developed to maximize internal space, ease of access, and flexibility of seat configuration.

Mitsubishi sells a “minivan with the soul of an SUV” with 7 seats cheaper than Chevrolet Spin, Citroën Aircross, and Caoa Chery Tiggo 8 in Brazil; for about R$ 76,000 in conversion without taxes, the Xpander has a 1.5 engine, manual or CVT transmission, 220 mm ground clearance, and a robust family package that Brazilians don’t have, but Indonesia does.

Japan and Mercosur may reach an agreement to lower the cost of cars and auto parts, with manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, and Nissan coming into focus.

Volkswagen is preparing an SUV derived from the new Amarok to compete with the Toyota SW4 and Haval H9, utilize the Argentine Pacheco factory, and transform a pickup into a more profitable family of products.

Brazil gets its first ultra-fast 480 kW charger for electric cars, serving up to four vehicles at the same time and promising a charge from 10% to 80% in about 15 minutes.
Suzuki reports a capacity for 7 occupants, with three rows of seats and a folding system that allows the cabin to be quickly transformed between passenger and cargo transport. The trunk offers 209 liters with all seats in use, but can reach 803 liters when the rear rows are folded down.

This type of versatility has practically disappeared from the Brazilian entry market. While many SUVs prioritize an adventurous appearance, the Ertiga remains focused on family use, travel, and transporting more people without requiring a large vehicle.
1.5 K15C Smart Hybrid Engine delivers up to 101 hp and can be combined with automatic transmission
The current line uses the well-known 1.5 K15C Smart Hybrid engine from Suzuki. The engine has 1,462 cm³, four cylinders, and a mild hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
According to data released by Maruti Suzuki, the set delivers about 101.6 hp at 6,000 rpm and torque close to 136.8 Nm, and can work with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The Smart Hybrid system uses energy regeneration and electric assistance functions in certain usage conditions. Although it is far from being a full hybrid like Toyota models, it helps improve consumption and smooth operation in urban environments.
Suzuki also markets versions with S-CNG technology, aimed at the Indian market, further expanding the focus on operational economy. In this configuration, the manufacturer reports a certified consumption of up to 26.11 km/kg.
Family minivan offers features that many more expensive models still do not deliver
Despite its affordable positioning, the Ertiga has received a series of updates in recent years. The model offers air conditioning outlets for the rear rows, multiple storage compartments, multimedia system, smartphone connectivity, and solutions aimed at family use.
Modularity continues to be one of the biggest differentiators. The third row can be folded down to increase luggage capacity, and the second row has adjustments that help balance space between passengers and cargo.

Another highlight is Suzuki’s increasing focus on safety. The manufacturer confirmed the adoption of 6 airbags as standard across the entire Ertiga line in India, in addition to electronic controls, hill start assist, ABS, and electronic brake distribution.
Brazilian market has practically abandoned the segment that the Ertiga still represents
For many years, models like Chevrolet Zafira, Fiat Doblò, Nissan Grand Livina, and Renault Scénic held an important place among Brazilian families. However, with the rise of SUVs, most of these options have disappeared.
Today, those looking for a 7-seater vehicle usually need to switch to significantly more expensive SUVs. This makes models like the Ertiga stand out when they appear in Asian markets.
The case is even more curious because Suzuki has a strong global tradition in compact vehicles but does not officially offer an equivalent product in Brazil.
Meanwhile, Indian consumers continue to have access to a relatively simple, economical, and spacious minivan for a price that, when directly converted, costs less than many compact cars currently sold in the Brazilian market.
