Marcelo Sampaio Visited Codeba in Salvador to Witness the Modern Facilities of the Port That Has Been Breaking Records Since 2019, Signaling Support from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Federal Government for Maximizing Investments in the State
The Port Authority of the State of Bahia (Codeba) received, this Thursday (09), the visit of the Ministry of Infrastructure, through its Executive Secretary Marcelo Sampaio. The objective was to understand and monitor the operations at the port terminal located in Salvador, in the state of Bahia, which showed excellent numbers in cargo movement in 2019, compared to 2018.
According to official data posted on the Federal Government’s website, Codeba’s work in 2019 generated about R$ 158.6 million, an increase in revenue translated into 13.36% compared to 2018.
The Port of Salvador alone was able to handle about 3.3 million tons last year until October 2020. This Bahian port complex currently has:

The main products handled are bulk solids (wheat), bulk liquids (asphalt), and general cargoes such as granite and cellulose.
Investments in the Port of Salvador
The main investments made by the Port include the Expressway, which connects the terminal to BR-324/BA, the dredging of its access channel, the construction and modernization of the new maritime passenger terminal, the purchase of new equipment for the Container Terminal, and the modernization of the wheat reception structure.
Also during this visit to Bahia, the Secretary learned about the projects of Tecon Salvador, the Codeba terminal that connects Brazil to other parts of the world where operations are commercially active. From 2017 to now, the terminal directed over R$ 443 million in investments, enhancing its know-how in support and structure.
“The port sector has been breaking movement records with differentiated results, thanks to a technical management that has been adopted at Codeba. We believe in the potential of Bahia’s ports and we are optimistic about the future projects that will be implemented,” added Marcelo Sampaio.

TECHNICAL VISIT – In addition to Codeba and the Port of Salvador, Marcelo Sampaio will on Friday (9) inspect the Port of Aratu-Candeias, which is part of the Concessions Program of MInfra and foresees investments of R$ 413 million. The Secretary will conclude the agenda by visiting the Salvador International Airport, which underwent expansion and renovation works, along with investments in sustainability, being the first airport in Brazil to have a solar plant with the capacity to meet over 30% of the current consumption of the passenger terminal.
