Michael Dell surpassed Mark Zuckerberg and reached the sixth position among the world’s richest people, after Dell’s shares advanced 32.1% on Friday, driven by artificial intelligence servers.

Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Dell and the turnaround in the ranking
The intraday high surpassed the previous record of Dell’s shares, of 31.6%, recorded in March 2024. With this, Michael Dell was behind Larry Ellison, from Oracle, whose fortune reached $266.4 billion after growing by $13.5 billion.
The movement reflected the market’s reaction to the balance sheet released on Thursday. Dell reported earnings of $4.86 per share and revenue of $43.8 billion in the first quarter, above expectations of $2.96 per share and $35.7 billion, according to FactSet.
AI servers drive results
The highlight came from artificial intelligence. Revenue from AI servers rose 757% compared to the previous year, reaching $16.1 billion. The company also raised its annual AI revenue projection to $60 billion, against $50 billion forecasted in February.
Analysts from Morgan Stanley acknowledged a misjudgment and classified the quarter as one of the most impressive ever seen in hardware coverage. Patrick Moorhead, from Moor Insights & Strategy, also described the results as an “absolute explosion.”
