The Mega Project of the Stilted Viaduct of the Municipal Hall will be one-way, connecting Avenida Lucas Nogueira Garcez to Avenida Pereira Barreto and is part of a package for road requalification, drainage, and traffic reorganization in the central region
The mega project of R$ 230 million has already begun in São Bernardo do Campo and is among the largest traffic interventions ever made in the Greater ABC. The centerpiece of the project is the Stilted Viaduct of the Municipal Hall, designed to reorganize the flow at one of the most sensitive traffic points in the city.
The expectation is that the intervention will help reduce the volume of vehicles around the Municipal Hall by up to 40%, with changes that go beyond the viaduct: the package includes readjustment of the road system, micro-drainage, and resurfacing on strategic roads, with a total execution period of up to 24 months.
How the stilted viaduct of the mega project will be
The stilted viaduct will have 350 meters in length and will be supported by a single central pillar, in a model described as modern in road engineering. The structure was designed to operate in one-way, creating a direct connection between Avenida Lucas Nogueira Garcez and Avenida Pereira Barreto, two important corridors in the city.

In practice, the mega project aims to provide a more continuous and predictable path for those crossing the central region, reducing traffic conflicts at accesses and intersections.
What the mega project aims to change in the traffic around the Municipal Hall
The expectation is that the mega project will alleviate an old mobility problem in the city. The intervention targets exactly the point where traffic concentrates and loses fluidity, with the promise of improving circulation around the Municipal Hall.
Mayor Marcelo Lima stated that the city has grown significantly and that mobility has not kept pace with this development, classifying the challenge as old and advocating for the beginning of a transformation in the central region.
Where the money for the project comes from
The investments are part of a package for road requalification, drainage, and reorganization of the traffic system. Of the total R$ 230 million, the state government invested R$ 50 million.
The other R$ 180 million will be the responsibility of the municipality, through financing from the CAF, the Andean Development Corporation, Development Bank of Latin America.
Beyond the overpass: road restructuring, drainage, and repaving
The mega project is not limited to the cable-stayed structure. The plan includes complete restructuring of the surrounding road system, with reorganization of accesses, intersections, and flows to improve urban mobility.
The package also includes micro-drainage works in the central region and in the Jardim do Mar neighborhood, with cleaning and adaptation of stormwater galleries, as well as asphalt repaving on strategic roads such as Marechal Deodoro, Faria Lima, and Jurubatuba. Avenida da Saudade also appears in the set of changes in the central area.
Who is executing and what is the deadline
The works will be executed by the Municipal Road Consortium of SBC. The total execution period reported is up to 24 months, covering the overpass, road reorganization, and drainage and repaving interventions.
When this overpass is completed, which section do you think will feel the difference first: the connection between Lucas Nogueira Garcez and Pereira Barreto or the surroundings of the Municipal Palace?
