With The Installation Of The New Solar Plants, The Town Of Gurupi In The State Of Tocantins Will Count On High Investments And Generating New Job Opportunities For The Region Of Gurupi
The town of Gurupi, in the southern region of Tocantins, will soon have three photovoltaic solar plants that will help the city become a major producer of solar energy. The announcement was made last Thursday, the 31st, by Mayor Josi Nunes (UB) and her team from the Municipal Department of Economic Development and the Environment, who have already delivered the first licenses to the representatives responsible for the solar plants’ construction. The estimate is that investments of around R$ 4 billion will be made over the next five years, and more than 1,000 new job opportunities will be created.
Solar Plant Will Have A Positive Impact On The Southern Region Of Tocantins
According to information provided by the Municipal Department of Economic Development and the Environment of Gurupi, the three solar power plants will have a total generating capacity of around 448.381 Megawatts and will occupy an impacted area of only 910.5 hectares.
The Plants Received Distinct Names: GES Gurupi Energia Solar, Gurupi Photovoltaic Complex, And California Photovoltaic Complex
According to the Director of the Environment of Gurupi, Diego Rocha, this is a significant advantage for the town in relation to the impacts caused by a hydroelectric plant, such as the plant in the town of Peixe, also in Tocantins, which generates 498.75 Megawatts in an area of only 29,400 hectares.

Solar panels at sea can generate up to 12% more energy than land-based plants, study finds: Researchers from Taiwan discovered that offshore solar panels take advantage of the natural cooling of water to increase electrical efficiency, reduce heat losses, and expand renewable energy production in regions with limited available land space.
Diego Rocha stated that solar energy distribution is the trend of the present time. Rocha also said that, compared to a hydroelectric plant, which is currently the main source in the energy matrix of the southern region of Tocantins, the three electric plants – as soon as they begin their operations in the state – will generate a capacity very similar to that of Enerpeixe (in Peixe – TO), but with only a fraction of the total impacted area.
The Director of the Environment also highlighted that this type of project with high investments, in addition to the positive impact on generating new job opportunities, environmental impact, and the expansion of solar energy generation capacity, will enable the town of Gurupi to become a major solar photovoltaic energy generation hub.
Generation Of New Job Opportunities

In addition to everything that has already been mentioned here, another advantage is the investment that will be applied during the installation process of the three plants in Gurupi, which total around R$ 4 billion guaranteed for the next five years, not to mention the generation of 1,200 new direct jobs and another 300 indirect jobs during the construction of the solar plants.
It is estimated that the construction of the plants will begin in mid-2023. Rocha emphasized that the town of Gurupi will become a reference in the Northern region of Brazil regarding renewable energy generation. He also noted that it is very expensive to transport this type of energy into the grid, and that now the town has two energy substations, with one of them expected to be expanded, attracting much more investment for the installed plants.
Mayor Josi Nunes praised the efficiency of the environmental team in the municipality for the approval of the processes. She stated that these are three major projects that will generate many new job opportunities and income for the region, in addition to attracting high investments to the town.
