Toyota Announced Its Plans To Launch A New Electric Car In The Near Future. The Model Will Arrive In The Automotive Industry With Solid-State Batteries And A Range Beyond The Standard Of 1,000 Km.
Toyota is planning the launch of an electric car equipped with solid-state batteries in a few years. The news was revealed by an executive of the company during an investment summit in India last Thursday (11). These solid-state batteries promise to recharge faster and offer superior range, representing a significant advancement in the automotive industry.
New Electric Car With A Range Of 1,200 Km Arrives In 2028 In The Automotive Industry
The new batteries are a key element in Toyota’s strategy to regain lost ground to Tesla and Chinese rivals, such as BYD, in the sector. In the past year, Toyota and the Idemitsu Kosan oil refinery announced that they would join forces to develop and mass-produce solid-state batteries, which they plan to bring to market in 2027 and 2028, followed by mass production.
According to the director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor in India, Vikram Gulati, the company will launch a new electric car with solid-state batteries in a few years. It will be a model that can be recharged in 10 minutes and will offer a range of 1,200 kilometers, and its lifespan is expected to be very good, Gulati states.

It is important to note that solid-state batteries are high-tech but require extensive research and work to perfectly fit into cars. As early as 2022, Toyota stated that by 2025, there would be an electric car with this type of battery in the automotive industry.
However, no further news about it has been disclosed. This battery is so different that it promises to charge from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes and a range of 1,000 km on a single charge.
A New Battery From Toyota Will Arrive In 2026
The biggest challenge is the complex production of solid-state batteries. Each layer of the cells must be stacked quickly, accurately, and under extremely high pressure, and they are also more sensitive to factors like humidity and oxygen.
However, apparently, Toyota has already managed to overcome this problem, as well as the issue of the shorter durability of these batteries. The Japanese automaker is the leader in patents for this type of battery, holding 8,274 registrations according to GlobalData.
According to Vikram Gulati, the idea is to gradually work on developing new solid-state battery models, thereby also gradually expanding the range per charge of electric cars, as well as reducing the time needed for a full system charge.
The first step for Toyota will be the implementation of more modern batteries, still lithium-ion, however, with the “Performance” label. They are expected to arrive in 2026 to provide a 20% boost in the range of cars and reduce the charging time to 20 minutes.
Toyota Sales Figures In 2023
While these “miraculous” batteries do not reach the automotive industry, Toyota continues to advance with electric vehicles. To show how much the Brazilian market has embraced this new segment, earlier this month, the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE) revealed the total sales of electrified cars over the 12 months of 2023 throughout the country.
Surprisingly, the two cars that dominate the total of electrified vehicles were both from Toyota. The Corolla and Corolla Cross siblings outperformed the new Dolphin, Song Plus, Ora 03, and Haval H6. While the midsize sedan sold 7,885 units of the hybrid versions, the midsize hybrid SUV was delivered to more than 12,115 customers.
