World’s Best-Selling Sedan Gets a Prius Look: Toyota Corolla Receives Split Headlights, Darkened Grille, and Connected Taillights in Its Chinese Update
The Toyota Corolla is about to get a fresh look in the Chinese market, and the design has not gone unnoticed.
Homologation images released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) show that the midsize sedan will undergo an aesthetic update that follows the style of the Prius and RAV4, but without changing generations.
Even with six years on the market in its current 12th generation and a recent facelift in the 2025 lineup for Brazil, the Corolla is already feeling the weight of time.

Chevrolet Tornado Van 2026 emerges as a compact van cheaper than many popular cars in Brazil, with a 1.5 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, 650 kg load capacity, 3.3 m³ of usable space, and fuel consumption of up to 18.1 km/l for about R$ 87,000 in tax-free conversion; an urban utility vehicle that Brazilians don’t have, but Mexico does.

Forget the basic popular car: used sedans like Passat CC, Kia Cerato, Nissan Altima, Mitsubishi Lancer, and Volvo S60 show that it’s still possible to buy more performance, comfort, and technology for less than many new compacts.
-
Used Honda Civic: 3 versions of the Japanese sedan with naturally aspirated engines of up to 155 hp, fuel consumption of up to 13.8 km/l, robust automatic transmission, and a reputation for reliable mechanics still dominate the used car market in Brazil.

Toyota Hilux becomes a ‘cargo truck’: automaker declares a new era for the pickup with greater capacity, reinforced chassis, 2.8 turbodiesel engine, raised suspension, 1,525 kg load capacity, and targets Ford Ranger Super Duty, which tows an impressive 4,500 kg.
Therefore, Toyota is betting on another redesign of the current platform, called Corolla Allion in China, before introducing a new model in fact.

Most Notable External Changes
The major transformation is concentrated at the front. The headlights are now split, featuring a “C” shaped outline with a continuous LED strip on top, while the high and low beam modules are positioned at the ends of the bumper, integrated with black details.
The front grille has also been redesigned, with darkened horizontal elements, accompanied by a more prominent spoiler that enhances sportiness.
From the side, the changes are subtle, limited to the new design of the alloy wheels.
At the rear, the highlight is the taillights, which now have a new internal arrangement and are connected by a lit strip in the center.
The rear bumper retains the style already known in the current model.

Interior Is Still a Mystery
As is common in official Chinese records, no images of the interior have been released.
This generates anticipation: Toyota may maintain the same dashboard, virtually untouched since the launch of this generation, or follow the path of the RAV4, adopting a flatter design, with a larger multimedia center and greater technological integration.
No Changes in Engine Options
Under the hood, nothing changes from what we already know in Brazil.
The Corolla continues with the 1.8 hybrid engine, delivering up to 72 kW (98 hp) and using a nickel-cobalt-manganese battery, in addition to the 2.0 gasoline aspirated engine, capable of generating 126 kW (171 hp).
These options reinforce Toyota’s bet on keeping the model competitive through reliability and efficiency, without resorting to mechanical innovations at this time.
The new look of the Corolla in China confirms a clear strategy from Toyota: maximizing the lifespan of the current generation with visual changes that bring the sedan closer to the brand’s new global identity. For Brazilian consumers, all that’s left is the anticipation of when — and in what configuration — this facelift will arrive here.
