Toyota revolutionizes with the Urban Cruiser: Toyota's NEW electric SUV with 184 hp and surprising autonomy
There is still no official confirmation that Toyota's new electric SUV, Urban Cruiser EV, will arrive in Brazil. The brand is evaluating factors such as demand and tax incentives to decide on its launch in the Brazilian market.

With up to 174 hp in standard versions, 184 hp in the AWD option and two 49kWh or 61kWh batteries, Toyota's new electric SUV promises comfort, cutting-edge technology and generous interior space with a 2,70m wheelbase.

Toyota surprised everyone by announcing its new electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser EV, marking its debut in the 100% electric vehicle segment. After years of leading with its hybrids, the Japanese giant has decided to expand its presence in the sustainable mobility market. And from what we've seen, the bet is bold and promising.

The Urban Cruiser EV arrives to show that Toyota is ready to face the competition in the electric segment, bringing modern design, advanced technology and performance that promises to please even the most demanding drivers.

Toyota's transition to 100% electric SUVs

Toyota's new electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser EV, will initially be launched in the European market, with its debut confirmed at the Brussels Motor Show in January 2025. It will be produced in India, from where it should also serve other strategic markets in Asia and possibly expand to regions with high demand for electric vehicles.

Toyota has always been synonymous with innovation in the automotive sector, especially with its line of hybrids, such as the Prius. However, the electric market has been growing at a rapid pace, and the brand realized the need to embrace this trend.

The Urban Cruiser EV symbolizes this turning point. Inspired by the concept presented last year, it has been tweaked to appeal to a wider audience, but without giving up its futuristic identity. This SUV is an example of how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand.

Modern design with a focus on functionality

The Urban Cruiser EV has a striking look, with clean lines and details that highlight its modernity. The front has been softened, with more integrated headlights and a thin grille that reinforces the model's elegance. On the sides, black plastic appliqués add robustness, while the rear impresses with long taillights and a striking bumper.

Although a little smaller than the initial concept, the Urban Cruiser EV offers great use of space. With a 2,70 meter wheelbase, it ensures comfort for both the driver and passengers, making it ideal for urban use and travel.

High-level electrical power and performance

Toyota's new electric SUV will be offered with two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Power ranges from 144 hp in the basic version to 174 hp in the more advanced models. This flexibility allows it to cater to both urban drivers and adventurers looking for more performance.

For adventure fans, the AWD version promises extra fun. With four-wheel drive, an additional motor on the rear axle and features such as hill descent control and “Trail Mode”, it is prepared for challenging terrain. This configuration delivers 184 hp and 31 kgfm of torque, ensuring strength and safety on any trail.

Technological interior and advanced safety

Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV impresses with its 10,25-inch digital dashboard and 10,1-inch infotainment screen. Sliding and reclining seats, a wireless phone charger and a JBL sound system complete the technological package, offering comfort and cutting-edge connectivity.

In terms of safety, the SUV includes six airbags, a 360° camera and the ADAS system, which assists in driving. These features place the model among the safest in its category, an important point for families seeking protection and peace of mind.

Global launch and expectations in Brazil

The Urban Cruiser EV will be officially presented at the Brussels Motor Show in January 2025. With production in India, it promises competitive prices in the European market, which will be announced in the third quarter of the same year.

There is still no confirmation about his arrival in Brazil, but the interest in the electric segment is on the rise in the country. The arrival of the Urban Cruiser EV will depend on factors such as tax incentives and local public demand.
