Toyota Yaris Cross: Discover The Strategies Of The First Full Hybrid Compact SUV In Brazil That Promises To Achieve 30 Km/L To Annihilate The Jeep Renegade And Hyundai Creta, And Conquer The Brazilian Market
After dominating the medium SUV segment with the Corolla Cross, Toyota intends to apply the same strategy to expand its presence in the compact SUV market with the Toyota Yaris Cross. The vehicle was registered with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) at the beginning of May and is expected to begin production in 2025.
However, the compact SUV market is notoriously more competitive than that of medium SUVs. Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Jeep Renegade, and VW T-Cross are some of the established competitors that already have a strong presence in Brazil. To face this competition, the Toyota Yaris Cross promises to offer some advantages. See Below.
New Yaris Cross Arrives In 2025 As The Cheapest SUV From Toyota!
Yaris Cross Is Larger Than Creta
The dimensions of the SUV are known and suit the segment well. The Yaris Cross measures 4.31 m in length, 1.77 m in width, 1.62 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.62 m. Additionally, its trunk has a capacity of 471 liters, 31 liters more than that of the Corolla Cross.

With 74% of companies facing difficulties in hiring, technicians and engineers in renewable energy are becoming scarce in Brazil and are essential to support the expansion of solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects.
-
A French brand placed a car on four huge red balloons to prove that its suspension made the vehicle “float,” and the surreal scene became one of the most iconic and unusual images in automotive history.
-
Jeep Avenger begins production in Brazil, debuting as the brand’s new entry-level SUV and inaugurating an unprecedented phase by becoming the first national Jeep manufactured outside of Goiana, as part of a R$ 3 billion plan.

Costing R$ 12,490, the new Shineray Urban Lite 150 “cheap one” arrives in Brazil with a CVT transmission, digital dashboard, and LED lights, making it more affordable than the Biz and targeting those who want to abandon the bus.
In comparison, the Jeep Renegade has a length of 4.31 m, a width of 1.76 m, a height of 1.61 m, and a wheelbase of 2.61 m, all smaller except for the length, compared to the Yaris Cross. Compared to the Hyundai Creta, the Toyota is larger in length (4.29 m) and wheelbase (2.59 m), but smaller in width (1.78 m) and height (1.63 m).
Toyota’s Mini SUV Will Be The First Full Hybrid Compact SUV (HEV) Available In Brazil And Promises To Achieve 30 Km/L
Potentially, the Yaris Cross will be the first full hybrid compact SUV (HEV) available in Brazil, using the same system as the Toyota Corolla and Corolla Cross models, but with distinct engines.
In addition to the combustion 1.5 flex engine option, the Yaris Cross will also bring a hybrid version to Brazil, utilizing an upgraded version of the 1.5 engine currently found in the Toyota Yaris hatch and sedan.
The hybrid engine operates in the Atkinson cycle and, in fuel mode, delivers 91 hp and 12.3 kgfm, while with electric assistance it reaches 111 hp and 14.4 kgfm.
Similar to the Corolla Cross, the Yaris Cross features a transaxle transmission, but its lithium-ion batteries have a capacity of 0.7 kWh, unlike the nickel-cadmium batteries of the medium SUV. This setup is accompanied by an eCVT transmission and an energy regeneration system, allowing for an impressive mark of 30 km/l.
Repeating The Successful Formula Of The Corolla Cross
The repetition of the Corolla Cross formula also involves the choice of the name Yaris Cross. One of the factors behind the medium SUV’s success was the use of the renowned Corolla brand. For the compact SUVs, Toyota bets on the name Yaris.
The Toyota Yaris has been on the Brazilian market since 2018, in hatch and sedan versions, and is known for being one of the most affordable automatic cars in the country. Although it is not a top seller, the Yaris has accumulated good sales – over 40,000 units in 2023 – facilitating the acceptance of the Yaris Cross in Brazil.
Design Inspired By The RAV4
Although it uses the strategy of the Corolla Cross and the name Yaris, the design of the Yaris Cross resembles the Toyota RAV4. The SUV will feature irregular-shaped LED headlights, a diamond trapezoidal grille, and niches for fog lights, reminiscent of Toyota’s top-of-the-line SUV.
At the rear, the taillights are also similar to those of the RAV4, with black accents on the bumper and the trunk lid, creating an aesthetic that closely approaches the RAV4.
As Safe As The Corolla Cross
Despite being a compact SUV, the Yaris Cross has a well-equipped interior, though simpler than that of the Corolla Cross. The car will have a 10.1-inch floating multimedia center with wireless connectivity for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, a partially digital instrument panel, electronic parking brake, Pioneer sound system, and even a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, the Yaris Cross will feature six airbags and the TSS (Toyota Safety System) package, including autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure alert. Externally, it will come with 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels, depending on the version.
Simply The Cheapest SUV In Brazil And From Toyota To Annihilate The Hyundai Creta And Jeep Renegade
Toyota is investing R$1.7 billion in the Sorocaba factory in São Paulo to locally produce the Yaris Cross. To achieve the goal of being the cheapest hybrid in Brazil, the Toyota Yaris Cross only needs to have a starting price lower than R$187,790 currently charged for the Corolla Altis Hybrid.
The expectation is that prices will begin around R$130,000 to R$170,000 for the hybrid, positioning competitively with the Honda HR-V, which has a 1.5 engine with 126 hp.
This initiative not only promises more competitive prices but also boosts the local economy, generating jobs and fostering the Brazilian automotive industry.
