The registration of fish cargoes was even greater: 126%, from 2,085 tons in 2021 to over 4,700 tons in 2022. Relatively, shipments of chicken had a higher volume. In 2022, 2,378,360 tons of chicken were exported. The previous year saw about 2,276,168 tons, reflecting a growth of over 4.5%.
“The Port of Paranaguá is the main exit for Brazilian chicken to the international market,” says the CEO of Ports of Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. “Much is due to the fact that we are strategic for the main poultry producer, which is the State of Paraná.”
However, according to the director, it is the capacity of the container terminal at Port of Paranaguá and also its port infrastructure in the State that enables cargo operators to continue operating through the Paraná port.

“The second main chicken exporter in the country is the Port of Itajaí, in Santa Catarina. If we did not offer more operational advantages to the segment, the cargo would certainly migrate. After all, the distance is small,” he adds.
Cargo transport is done by containers. The company TCP manages the container terminal at the Port of Paranaguá, having the largest structures to meet the needs of all refrigerated and frozen goods from all over Latin America, with more than 3,624 power outlets.
STRUCTURES – Besides all this, it is still the only terminal of this segment in the South region with some railway operations within a primary zone. “And the railway serves a lot of chicken exporters, especially from the western region of the State,” says the director.
RAILWAYS – There was an increase in container movement by rail in 2022. In mid-2021, the symmetry was 91% road transport and 9% rail. Last year, there were differences, it was 86% by road to about 14% by rail.
CATTLE AND PIGS – Exports of beef rose over 113%. In 2021, 221,442 tons were shipped through the Port of Paranaguá. Last year, this volume totaled over 471,943 tons. In the export of pork, there were over 119,802 tons in 2022, and more than 123,266 in 2021, resulting in a decrease of nearly 2.8%.
DESTINATIONS – China, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates were the main destinations for chicken shipped from the Port of Paranaguá. Egypt, China, and the Philippines were the main destinations for beef, while pork had its largest volumes shipped to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. And fish’s main destination was the United States.
