Sorocaba Adopts Bus Stops with Artificial Intelligence to Ensure More Safety for Passengers During Wait.
Imagine waiting for the bus at night knowing you are being protected by artificial intelligence. In Sorocaba, a city 90 km from São Paulo, this is already a reality! The BRT Sorocaba concessionaire has just launched bus stops that ‘speak’, called Parada Amiga. This initiative promises to revolutionize safety in public transport, especially for women. With high-definition cameras and real-time monitoring, the bus stops now offer a safer and calmer environment for those who need to wait for boarding.
Meet the Parada Amiga
The Parada Amiga is an innovative project by BRT Sorocaba that combines artificial intelligence and remote assistance to ensure the safety of passengers, mainly women, during the wait for the bus.
Of the 25 bus stops that will be equipped with this technology, five will have human remote assistance, while the other 20 will be monitored exclusively by artificial intelligence. The first stop is already operational at Avenida Dr. Armando Pannunzio, 26, in Jardim Europa, and the others will be activated by the end of this month.

Understand How the Speaking Bus Stops Work
The bus stops of the Parada Amiga are equipped with high-definition cameras and speakers. The artificial intelligence monitors the location 24 hours a day, but human remote assistance is available from 7 PM to 12:30 AM.
If the system identifies any vulnerability situation, such as harassment or risk of violence, it takes action. The speakers emit a message reassuring the passenger and informing them that the situation is being monitored by the Operational Control Center (CCO).
Depending on the seriousness, the CCO can alert the Military Police, the Municipal Guard (GCM), or even the SAMU to ensure the person’s safety.
An Important Step to Ensure the Safety of the Population
Safety at the bus stops has always been a concern, especially for women who need to use public transport at night. With the Parada Amiga, BRT Sorocaba is taking an important step to change this reality.
Ramon Alcaraz, designer of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), explains that the goal is to provide a calmer waiting period and discourage possible risks. “Our desire is for women to use the bus knowing that we dedicate special attention to their safety,” he states.
Technology for the Service of Safety
The artificial intelligence used in the bus stops of the Parada Amiga can quickly cross data and identify risk situations in real time. Even when there is no human operator available, the system continues to monitor the area and can alert authorities if necessary.
This technology not only increases the sense of safety but also helps prevent incidents before they happen. It is an example of how innovation can be used to improve people’s lives.
How Does Remote Monitoring Work?
From 7 PM to 12:30 AM, the bus stops with remote assistance have human operators who monitor the cameras in real time. Outside of these hours, the artificial intelligence takes control, ensuring that the area is always under surveillance.
This combination of technology and human assistance is what makes the Parada Amiga so efficient. And the best part: all of this is available at no additional cost to passengers.
What do you think of this initiative? Will the speaking bus stops spread to other cities? Share your opinion in the comments, and let’s hope more projects like this come close to you!
