Uber Is Developing A New Service Category Where Users Can Request Rides In An Electric Vehicle From Tesla And Other Companies.
Uber announced on Wednesday (18) a new service where its users can request a ride in an electric vehicle. The initiative is named Uber Comfort Electric and was launched in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Dubai, and will arrive in other cities and countries soon. The service includes various vehicles from Polestar and the famous Tesla, in addition to other unspecified vehicles. This new Uber service is part of its commitment to becoming a mobility platform with zero emissions by 2040.
Uber Partners With Car Rental Company
Recently, the company partnered with car rental company Hertz to incorporate 50,000 Tesla electric vehicles into its service by next year. Currently, renting a Tesla electric vehicle costs an average of US$ 334 per week; however, this amount is expected to be reduced to R$ 300 in the future.
Thus, Uber hopes to encourage and educate drivers to use electric cars. The company will also provide a feature in its app called EV Hub, which will offer more information about the costs of owning an electric vehicle compared to a combustion car and will provide locations of nearby charging stations, as well as charging speeds at those locations.

Details About The Partnership Between Uber And Hertz
In October of last year, Hertz announced its large order of 100,000 units of the Tesla Model 3, which will be acquired for the company to use electric vehicles for rental alongside Uber. At the time, the company’s CEO, Marks Fields, stated that soon another 100,000 units of the electric vehicle would be ordered for Uber’s use.
In this first phase, Hertz made investments of US$ 4.2 billion, the largest purchase of electric vehicles ever made in the world. According to Hertz’s executive, of the 100,000 units purchased, 50,000 will be for direct use by Uber and its drivers, and only half of the remaining will be part of the company’s own vehicle fleet.
The company expects that the 100,000 units of the model will be circulating by the end of 2022. It’s important to note that the vehicles will not be equipped with Full Self Driving, considering that Hertz’s CEO should cut costs somewhere, given that this technology costs about 10,000 euros.
Other Services Announced By Uber
The company also announced Uber Charter, which is being launched in the U.S. The service is done in partnership with US Coachways, a national bus service, which allows passengers to book large vehicles such as vans and buses directly through the app. One of the benefits of the service for users is that it will be possible to arrange transportation for groups of people.
The company also announced Uber Vouchers, which could be useful for events such as weddings. This is a service that was previously available only to companies, but now everyone can use it.
The service will help with the arrival of guests and transportation costs. With Vouchers, it is possible to fill out the details of the event, set a maximum value, location, among others.
