Change at Uber Seeks to Increase Driver Safety by Requiring Passenger Identity Verification
If you thought Uber had done everything to surprise, get ready: the ride-hailing giant has just implemented a new ID rule for passengers, affecting millions of users across the country.
Uber is undoubtedly one of the most used platforms in Brazil. Its app-based transportation services are a lifesaver for those who need to get somewhere quickly. Always seeking improvements, the company recently announced a new ID rule for passengers, aimed at enhancing the safety of both drivers and users of the service.
Uber Officially Announced the Implementation of This New Rule
On the last 17th, Uber officially announced the implementation of this new rule. The idea is simple yet powerful: to help drivers identify who is requesting the ride through the app. This means that by verifying users’ identities, drivers will have more confidence that the passenger does not pose a risk to their safety.

This measure arises as a response to situations where people use false names when registering on the platform, sometimes with malicious intentions, such as committing robberies. With the new ID rule for passengers, Uber aims to minimize these risks, providing drivers with a verification badge that confirms the user’s identity.
It is worth highlighting that this action is optional and does not involve the disclosure of personal data beyond what is necessary. Only the name and the verification badge will be displayed to the driver. The new rule is already being tested in some cities, with the expectation that it will soon be available nationwide.
Comparison: Uber or 99, Which is Better to Work For?
According to Portal Insights, when it comes to pay, Uber drivers have an advantage over 99 drivers. This is due to Uber being a more well-known company with a larger customer base. The platform offers drivers a higher percentage of the fare for each ride.
The Most Downloaded App in the World
As Uber implements its innovations, TikTok continues to reign in the app world. In 2023, it was the most downloaded mobile app globally, with an impressive 1 billion downloads across the App Store and Google Play. Since its official launch in 2016, TikTok has accumulated 5.17 billion downloads, with India leading in user numbers, followed by China, the USA, Indonesia, and Brazil.
