Chemical Industry Adopts Digital Solution WEG Motion Fleet Management for Smarter Management of Its Factories and Online Monitoring of Critical Industrial Assets
Concerned about the efficient management of its equipment, the global leader in specialty chemicals, with a long tradition of technological innovation, chose the WEG Motion Fleet Management solution for intelligent management and online monitoring of critical industrial assets.
The project originated within the company with the aim of initially monitoring the vibration of critical equipment, which is difficult to access or has operational specificities (load/rotation variation) that required continuous monitoring, such as: screw compressor (motor and compressor) and homogenizer (motor and reducer).

After observing operational gains with the online monitoring provided by WEG to the first assets, the client’s reliability and maintenance team was extremely satisfied and moved forward with the project, expanding monitoring at the factory in Curitiba (Brazil) in the boiler sector, and also bringing the technology to the resin factory located in Uruguay.

A Boeing 747 freighter took off from China carrying 90 tons of oil equipment, including an 8-meter part, to Saudi Arabia because global shipping delays were already threatening to halt the client’s operations in the middle of the desert extraction field.

The world’s largest ghost stadium is coming to life as Valencia has begun installing the roof for the 70,000-seat stands, the stair towers, and the facade of the Nou Mestalla, which has been stalled since 2009 and now has a deadline to be completed in 2027 in time for the World Cup.

Araújo transformed 8 old plastic drums into a real boat that floats, carries three people, and takes a 5-horsepower Mercury outboard motor, all built manually, from cutting the plastic to the final varnish.

The US$16 billion railway megaproject under the Hudson River is moving forward again after funds were frozen and will have two 2,210-meter tunnels connecting New Jersey to Manhattan.
Currently, the client’s reliability team, based in Curitiba, has a dedicated screen in their room to monitor the assets of the three units, two in Brazil and one in Uruguay.
The WEG Digital Solution Is Easy to Install and Low-Cost to Implement
One relevant point observed during the adoption of the WEG digital solution is the ease of installation and low implementation cost, as it uses wireless battery-powered sensors, eliminating the need for cables between devices. The solution is ready for use, requiring only registration on the platform and configuration of the sensors and gateway to obtain the first monitoring information at your fingertips.
In one case, a thermal anomaly was detected and after corrective action, the cabin ventilation was normalized and the thermal operating pattern of the equipment was standardized.

In another case, it was possible to identify the change in the operating pattern of the pump through vibration measurement (overall value and multiples of the fundamental) and thus confirm that this behavior was related to the production process, which requires a different operational adjustment for the pump.
“Based on the WEG digital monitoring system, the company was able to detect some specific and punctual conditions that it was previously unaware of, we were able to monitor the evolution and then generate an appropriate reasoning to plan predictive maintenance,” explains Odair Silva, the client’s reliability team leader.
Some of the Advantages Observed by the Chemical Industry After Implementing the Intelligent Digital Solution
- Possibility of remote monitoring of multiple plants or units, including in other countries, with geolocation tools, greatly facilitating the correct identification of monitored assets;
- Implementation of predictive maintenance routines based on the operational behavior of the asset and additional analyses by the reliability team;
- Dispatch of the reliability and maintenance technical team only when truly necessary, based on the condition of a specific asset;
- Increased availability of critical equipment to the process;
- Possibility of implementation in phases and in a highly scalable manner;
- Constant and consistent support from the supplier’s technical support during the implementation process, both in Brazil with technical support from WEG Digital and in Uruguay through the local distributor, FIVISA.
