The energy solutions company Unicoba announced another achievement for its expansion in the Brazilian battery market. The company secured a credit of R$ 20 million with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for the modernization of its battery factory in Manaus. The plant serves Motorola/Lenovo and will undergo updates and the purchase of cutting-edge machines in the coming months.

The Brazilian battery market has been growing significantly over the past few years, with the intensive presence of major players in the sector, such as Unicoba.

This week, the company announced a credit of R$ 20 million granted by BNDES for a project to automate and modernize its battery factory in Manaus.

The plant is a key producer of the equipment currently used by Lenovo/Motorola in their products. Thus, Unicoba aims to ensure cutting-edge equipment to deliver better results in battery manufacturing.

The investment of R$ 20 million in the modernization project includes the acquisition of imported new machines and equipment without a local equivalent, along with R$ 4 million in working capital associated.

Unicoba’s objective is not only to enhance the productive capacity of batteries at the Manaus factory but also to improve the quality of the designs of the batteries used by Motorola/Lenovo.

This way, it will consolidate its partnership with the electronics company, which has been intensively growing in the Brazilian market in recent years.

The credit granted by BNDES for the company’s project came from the Fund for the Development of Telecommunications Technology (Funtell), with a ten-year amortization period.

According to the bank, this is yet another initiative that reinforces its commitment to the industrial and technological development of Brazilian companies.

“With this investment, the company will be able to provide competitively produced batteries for a major global mobile phone brand,” said the director of Productive Development, Innovation and Foreign Trade at BNDES, José Luís Gordon.

Now, BNDES hopes that Unicoba makes good use of the credit granted for the necessary investments in the modernization project of the battery factory located in Manaus.
