Get to Know Unimed

Unimed is a cooperative created to provide a dignified medical assistance alternative for the Brazilian population, as well as to create a work system that values the effort of professionals and is exclusively aimed at customer satisfaction. With this goal, the cooperative system was adopted.

In December 1967, in Santos (SP), the first Unimed was born, and with it emerged the Medical Work Cooperative, an unprecedented modality in Brazil and the World. At that time, the actions of the 30 pioneering doctors were bold and courageous, as they highlighted the problems of the public health system (INPS) and opposed the profit-driven group medicine companies.
