The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) opened registrations for the free online course (EAD) of lato sensu specialization in teaching sociology in high school, according to Notice 001/2024. With a total of 150 vacancies, the initiative is part of the Open University of Brazil Program (UAB), offering quality training for basic education teachers, especially those who work in public networks.
The free specialization course aims to qualify high school teachers in Social Sciences, offering theoretical and practical support to face the challenges of everyday school life. Held online (EAD), it includes two mandatory face-to-face meetings, one at the beginning and one at the end of the course. Lasting 18 months and with a total workload of 360 hours, the activities are distributed across three modules that cover methodologies, history of sociology, political participation and citizenship, in addition to guidance for the Final Course Work (TCC).

There are 150 places available for the free online course (EAD) distributed across five in-person support centers: Currais Novos, Macau, Natal, Patu and Sรฃo Gonรงalo do Amarante. Each center has open competition (AC) places, affirmative action for black people, indigenous people and people with disabilities, as well as places for UFRN employees.

Selection process
The selection process for specialization takes place in four stages: approval of applications, analysis of documents, hetero-identification for black candidates and publication of the final result. There are vacancies reserved for affirmative actions, including candidates who self-declare as black, brown, indigenous or people with disabilities, as long as they prove their periodic condition.
Application requirements
Those interested in the free online course (EAD) must have a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or related fields (such as Anthropology or Political Science) and work as high school teachers. Internet access, knowledge of digital tools and availability to participate in face-to-face meetings at the selected centers are required.

The specialization covers content such as teaching methodology, teaching practices, history of sociology and citizenship, ensuring complete training for educators.
