Tension in the Persian Gulf intensifies after American military response to Iranian offensive, increasing risks to international navigation and global trade
The escalation of tensions in the Middle East reached a new and concerning chapter this Monday (4), when United States forces reacted to an Iranian offensive in the strategic Strait of Hormuz — one of the most important maritime routes on the planet. The episode involved cruise missile attacks, drones, and fast boats, raising international alert about possible impacts on global trade and energy security.
The information was released by CNN Brasil, based on statements from American military authorities who detailed the operation conducted in the region. According to the head of the US Central Command, Admiral Bradley Cooper, six small Iranian vessels were destroyed after actions considered hostile against commercial ships and American Navy units.
US military response reveals multi-layered defense strategy
According to the commander, American forces used attack helicopters such as the Apache and SH-60 Seahawk models to neutralize threats at sea. The Iranian offensive reportedly involved multiple simultaneous vectors — including drones and missiles — which required a coordinated and swift response from US military forces.

War in Iran raises global alert in the Strait of Hormuz: submarine cables carrying internet, AI, and financial transactions could become a vulnerable target
Additionally, President Donald Trump later stated on social media that the number of destroyed vessels could reach seven, further expanding the scope of the confrontation.
In this regard, the admiral highlighted that the American strategy goes beyond merely escorting commercial ships. According to him, the adopted model involves a robust and integrated defensive system with multiple layers of protection. This includes not only naval vessels but also aircraft, early warning systems, and electronic warfare.
“If we were just escorting, it would be a much more limited scenario. What we have today is a much broader and more efficient defensive package,” explained Cooper.
Strait of Hormuz becomes focus of tension and threatens global trade
The Strait of Hormuz is responsible for a significant portion of the world’s oil transportation, connecting the Persian Gulf to the rest of the planet. Therefore, any instability in the region has a direct impact on international markets and supply chains.
Meanwhile, the aggressive behavior attributed to Iran raises concerns about possible disruptions in the flow of merchant ships. Still, the United States reinforces that its presence in the region is defensive, focusing on ensuring free navigation.
The admiral also emphasized that the American action aims to allow commercial vessels to leave the Persian Gulf safely, even amid rising tensions.
Uncertainty over ceasefire increases international concern
Despite the seriousness of the events, the future of the ceasefire that had been maintained for almost a month between the parties remains undefined. When questioned about the topic, Bradley Cooper avoided giving a direct answer.
“I will not go into details about whether the ceasefire is over or not,” he stated.
On the other hand, he reinforced that the US military presence will continue to focus on defense and protection of navigation. According to the commander, the American reaction was a direct response to what he classified as aggressive behavior initiated by Iran.
In this scenario, experts warn that any new incident in the region could trigger even broader consequences, affecting not only the geopolitical balance but also the global economy.
