The Installation of a Photovoltaic Plant Will Reduce Electricity Costs for Farmers in the Ponto Novo Irrigation District in Bahia
The Ponto Novo Irrigation District in Bahia is on the right path when it comes to sustainability. One of the actions that aligns with this trend is the possibility of installing a Photovoltaic Plant, which will convert solar energy into electrical energy. Currently, one of the most expensive costs for maintaining agricultural activities in the DIPN in Bahia is the electricity bill.
Thinking about promoting a routine that meets the current needs of local farmers without compromising the ability to meet the same needs in the future, the installation of the photovoltaic panel plant was one alternative to improve the current situation of the farmers.

British engineers cool air until it turns into liquid, store energy for weeks, and create an “invisible battery” capable of sustaining the power grid when the wind stops and the sun disappears.
To this end, the Administrative Manager Eleilson Gama met in Salvador last Thursday (27) with Josias Gomes – Secretary of Rural Development of Bahia (SDR), the licensed Federal Deputy, and a group of engineers with the common idea of constructing a Photovoltaic Plant in the Ponto Novo Irrigation Project.
Eleilson Gama states that “The installation of a photovoltaic plant is an increasingly attractive alternative for generating clean and renewable energy, free from pollution and profitable, consequently reducing the electricity bill for farmers, which will make the activities in the irrigated area more viable.”
According to Josias Gomes, “Promoting public-private partnerships that enable the creation of a plant that generates energy at differentiated prices will be a milestone that enhances the actions developed in the Irrigated District. We are quite optimistic about this possibility of further investment in Ponto Novo, which will also directly and indirectly benefit the entire region.”
“The project for supplying photovoltaic energy to the Ponto Novo Irrigation District is very viable, with a reasonable payment cost; the investment can be for a maximum period of 8 to 10 years, and they will be able to enjoy very low-cost energy for 25 years. Photovoltaic energy is already a reality in Brazil, it is growing significantly worldwide, there are already very important initiatives in this area, and Brazil is starting to ride this wave as well. For Ponto Novo, we all believe this will be very important,” said engineer Dr. Albert.
