A Public-Private Partnership Will Implement a Solar Power System in the State of Piauí
Companies from Pernambuco, through a public-private partnership, will allow for the construction of a solar plant in Piauí. The investment from GM Gestão em Engenharia is R$ 40 million. The concession is valid for 25 years and is intended for the operation, maintenance, and management of two photovoltaic micro-plants with a capacity of 5 megawatts (MWp) each, totaling 10 MWp. The power generation plants will be constructed in about 1 year.

According to Guilherme Gondim, the company’s commercial director, “The state government modeled the project and found that by implementing this model, it would achieve a 20% reduction in energy costs, meaning it will lower the amount paid to the local distributor. In total, there are eight mini-plants with a total generation capacity of 40 MWp.”
Guilherme also states that this model is extremely beneficial. The country incurs no cost, only the cost of modeling the project. However, after the company won the PPP bidding, it was required to reimburse the government for the labor costs of the company it hired to implement the model.

Murilo Gondim, the technical director of GM Gestão em Engenharia, mentioned that the major positive aspect is that the model is very useful for public institutions. It is based on the resolution of Aneel. The Northeast has a very good level of solar radiation, and through the compensation of generated energy, the credit will be deducted from the energy distributor in Piauí.”
Moreover, these plants are also responsible for generating jobs and income in the surrounding area. During the implementation of these two small factories, about 60 direct jobs will be created. After completion, 20 employees are expected to be hired to manage and operate the structure.
