What Is The Minimum Salary For A Person To Be Considered Rich In Brazil
According to FGV, to arrive at the figure that outlines a line between those considered rich and those not considered, data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Pnad Contínua) with information from the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) were used.
This data presented considerably high figures for identifying a rich person or even super rich in Brazil. In this sense, it was found that:
- A person considered rich in Brazil needs to have an average monthly income of R$ 27,000.
- The survey, which states that only 1% of the population has an average monthly income at this level, showed that this amount is much higher than the estimate made previously based solely on Pnad Contínua data: R$ 16,000.
- This same survey also discussed those considered super rich. Here, the number is even lower, only 0.1% of the population. To be considered super rich, one must have an average monthly income of nothing less than R$ 95,000.
In terms of numbers, the percentages presented in the article, as reported by Marcelo Neri, coordinator of the study for FGV Social, show that today, just over two million people are considered rich in Brazil and 203,000 are super rich.
