This investment is part of the R$ 7 billion that the company planned to invest in Latin America between 2022 and 2026.
Although the exact amount for the Taubaté factory has not been disclosed.
With the MQB platform, the factory expanded its operation to three shifts and employed about 3,100 workers.
Job security, at that time, was guaranteed until 2025.
However, in March of this year, the factory faced challenges due to the sales of new cars being below expectations, resulting in collective vacations for about 2,900 workers.
In July, a two-month layoff for 800 employees was anticipated, but due to the positive sales performance of the Polo Track, manufactured at the unit, the layoff was suspended.
In the end, the company opted for an additional 10 days of collective vacation for 2,000 employees.
This collective agreement at the Volkswagen factory in Taubaté is a positive sign for the local economy and for workers, strengthening the automotive industry in the region and offering job positions in a crucial sector for Brazil’s growth.
