With 285 Tons Each, The Giant Generators Manufactured by WEG Will Be Part of A Hydroelectric Project in Santa Catarina with Installed Capacity of 142 MW
WEG, one of the largest manufacturers of turbines and electric motors in the world, was selected to supply the generators for the UHE São Roque, located in Vargem/SC. Recently, Ruhrpumpen, one of the leading manufacturers of pump systems in the world, chose WEG to supply and install the motors for the Ramal do Agreste project, one of Brazil’s major water infrastructure projects that will supply water to around 70 municipalities in the state of Pernambuco.
The generators are one of the most important components of the enterprise and, for the UHE São Roque, WEG supplied three hydro-generators SLW 4000 with a unit power of 50.5 MVA, 13.8 kV, and 180 rpm, including their auxiliary equipment.
With 285 tons each and approximately eight meters in diameter, these units are among the largest electric hydro-generators ever produced by WEG. With specialized engineering and verticalized manufacturing, equipment is developed and produced to fully meet customer needs and requirements.

How much does it cost to make a radier? A shallow foundation can speed up the construction and reduce stages, but poorly compacted soil, excess load, and design errors can turn the concrete slab into cracks, structural settlements, and much higher expenses later on.

Goodbye steel rebar? Scientists create 3D-printed plastic reinforcement that “bites” into concrete, prevents corrosion, and could change beams, slabs, and bridges in civil construction.
This supply is part of a large infrastructure project that will ensure energy for the Brazilian electricity system, boosting the economy of the region and the country. The UHE São Roque has an installed capacity of 142 MW, which on average is sufficient to supply a city with approximately 170,000 inhabitants.
Producing clean energy, benefiting from the hydraulic potential of a river, is the main mission of hydroelectric plants. For them to operate efficiently and reliably, a set of quality and reliability equipment is necessary for long periods of continuous operation.
WEG Closes Billion-Dollar Contract with Eletrobras to Manufacture 72 Turbines of 4.2 Megawatts
Billion-dollar partnership between WEG and Eletrosul, a subsidiary of Eletrobras. The companies closed a deal for the supply of wind turbines and services in a transaction exceeding R$ 2 billion!
According to WEG’s statement on February 18, the contract between the companies provides for the supply of 72 wind turbines of 4.2 megawatts (MW), including logistics, assembly, and commissioning, as well as operation and maintenance services throughout the project’s lifespan.
According to WEG, the wind turbines will be installed at the Coxilha Negra Wind Farm in Sant’Ana do Livramento (RS), totaling 302.4 megawatts of installed capacity, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2023, extending into 2024.
According to a relevant fact published by Eletrobras, the deal was made after the approval of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company of Southern Brazil (CGT Eletrosul), controlled by Eletrobras.
