New ASD 2312 class tugboat was launched on May 13 in Guarujá and will support New Panamax ships in the largest port in Latin America.
Wilson Sons launched, this Wednesday, May 13, the tugboat WS Capella, at the company’s shipyard in Guarujá, São Paulo. The vessel will be assigned to the Port of Santos, considered the largest port complex in Latin America.
Furthermore, the launch reinforces the company’s strategy to expand and renew its port support fleet. Currently, the company now has 83 vessels in operation along the Brazilian coast.
New tugboat increases capacity at the Port of Santos
Like the WS Halcyon, christened in January this year, the WS Capella is part of the new series of three high-power tugboats. The vessel belongs to the ASD 2312 class, with 23 meters in length and 12 meters in beam.

Thus, the WS Capella will be able to assist in berthing and unberthing maneuvers of large ships, including New Panamax vessels.
Technology reduces consumption and increases safety
According to Wilson Sons, the modern design of the tugboat allows for reduced fuel consumption. Consequently, the vessel helps to reduce emissions in port operations.
Moreover, the WS Capella is equipped with a FiFi 1 fire-fighting system, with a capacity of 2.4 million liters of water per hour.
The godmother of the vessel will be Flávia Carvalho, executive director of the Wilson Sons Maritime Agency.
Fleet strengthens national logistics
