New elevated structure on Avenida da Saudade will reorganize traffic between the North and East of the Island, with lane expansions, new accesses, and widening of bridges in one of the most congested sections of the capital
The elevated structure announced by the city hall of Florianópolis for the CIC region is expected to begin construction in May, with a promise to reduce bottlenecks and reorganize a critical traffic section in the city center.
The proposal for the elevated structure is to separate the flows of those heading to the North of the Island, towards SC-401, and those going to the East of the Island, towards Admar Gonzaga Highway, adding new lanes on Avenida da Saudade and traffic adjustments around the CIC Theater.
When will the construction start and how much will be invested
The construction of the new elevated structure on Avenida da Saudade, announced in November last year, is scheduled to start in the first semester, with an estimated start in May.

According to the city hall, the agreement with the state government is in the final alignment phase, and the bidding has already been completed. The expected funding to enable the elevated structure is R$ 34,968,902.78, through an agreement with the state.
Where will the elevated structure be located and what is the logic of the project

The elevated structure will be built in the CIC region, with two new traffic lanes aimed at serving drivers heading towards Itacorubi neighborhood.
The central idea of the new elevated structure is to separate the traffic that currently mixes at the same access point. Those heading to the North of the Island, towards SC-401, will continue using the existing structures. Meanwhile, the flow going to the East of the Island, towards Admar Gonzaga Highway, will start using the new elevated structure.
How the elevated structure is expected to impact traffic in practice
The city hall claims that the intervention aims to resolve retention points caused by the interlacing of vehicles heading to different destinations via the same access.
With the overpass, the expectation is to improve the movement of residents from the northern neighborhoods of the Island who use the CIC and Avenida da Saudade to access SC-401, in addition to facilitating the connection with Admar Gonzaga Highway, heading East.
More lanes on Avenida da Saudade and adjustments around the CIC
In addition to the new overpass, the package includes expansions and adjustments to support the increase in road capacity.
Among the changes mentioned are a new lane on the marginal road of Avenida Beira Mar Norte starting from Rua Carlos Corrêa, where there are currently three lanes, and the implementation of a fifth lane in front of the CIC Theater. Avenida da Saudade will be expanded from four to five lanes, with two widening of existing bridges.
This new overpass at the CIC is likely to really improve traffic, or do you think the area will need other changes besides the new lanes?
