Xpeng in Brazil? Volkswagen's main ally in China will soon arrive here with its innovative electric cars. The automaker draws attention in the automotive market for its luxury portfolio.

As they expand their presence in the European and Asian markets, Chinese automakers continue to explore new regions to expand their operations. Among them are Omoda/Jaecoo, Neta and Zeekr, and now another company is preparing to enter the Brazilian market. This time it's XPeng, a startup that collaborates with Volkswagen and has been highlighted as one of the emerging promises, alongside Nio and Li Auto.

Models present in the Xpeng portfolio

Information from the Motor1.com Brazil, who spoke with Sarah Chang, XPeng's media advisor in China, during the Beijing Motor Show, confirmed Xpeng's plans in Brazil. According to Chang, the Volkswagen allied company is negotiating with a Brazilian partner, who will be the official representative, and that the announcement will take place very soon.

Other sources reveal that the discussion was taking place between two interested parties, but now they are working out the details with the chosen company. There is still no information about which will be the first model to be launched by Xpeng in Brazil. Currently, the brand has a line made up of the P5 and P7 sedans, the G6 and G9 SUVs, and the X9 minivan.

The automaker has a premium positioning (despite charging less than Nio in China). In this way, it would make sense to bet on Xpeng's luxury and embedded technology in Brazil. Two likely choices are the large G6 SUV, as it is a car developed with the foreign market in mind, and the P5 sedan, as it inaugurates the use of the LiDAR laser sensor system and promises a level of driving autonomy above Full-Self Driving. from Tesla.

Volkswagen ally cars ooze luxury and plenty of technology

Xpeng's G6 is a car measuring 4,75 meters long and with a wheelbase of 2,89m, a size similar to that of the Jeep Commander, with its 4,76 meters. It is sold in two configurations: one using only a 296 hp engine on the rear axle and a 66 kWh battery, and the other with two engines, all-wheel drive and a combined power of 487 hp, powered by an 87,5 kWh battery. The autonomy can reach up to 700 km in the version with the larger battery.

The Xpeng P5 is currently the apple of the brand's eye, as it is the first car that, theoretically, could offer level 4 autonomous driving. At this level, the vehicle can drive alone and, if the driver does not respond to a request to intervene, the car is able to stop safely. This is achieved due to the use of LiDAR laser sensor technology.

In total, it uses two LiDARs, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 microwave sensors and 12 high-resolution cameras, monitoring a radius of 150 meters and 150º around the sedan.

Volkswagen invests US$700 million in Xpeng

The P5 goes beyond the semi-autonomous system and brings interesting technologies, such as cinema mode, which folds the front seats until they are straight, allowing you to place an air cushion on them, and use a projector sold as an option to project the image onto the vehicle roof. Xpeng's performance even caught the attention of foreigners.

Volkswagen recently announced that it invested US$700 million to buy 4,99% of the shares, in addition to a collaboration to develop two VW models for the Chinese market using the manufacturer's platform and technology.

It is worth mentioning that Xpeng delivered a total of 9.393 vehicles last month, an increase of 33% compared to last year. Its monthly deliveries also increased 4,0% sequentially.
