Xpeng in Brazil? Volkswagen’s Main Ally in China Will Soon Arrive Here with Its Innovative Electric Cars. Automaker Draws Attention in the Automotive Market for Its Luxury Portfolio.
As they expand their presence in the European and Asian markets, Chinese automakers continue to explore new regions to expand their operations. Among them are Omoda/Jaecoo, Neta, and Zeekr, and now another company is preparing to enter the Brazilian market. This time it’s XPeng, a startup that collaborates with Volkswagen and has been highlighted as one of the emerging promises alongside Nio and Li Auto.
Models Present in XPeng’s Portfolio
Information from Motor1.com Brazil, which spoke with Sarah Chang, media advisor for XPeng in China, during the Beijing Auto Show, confirmed XPeng’s plans in Brazil. According to Chang, the Volkswagen ally is negotiating with a Brazilian partner that will be the official representative, and the announcement will happen very soon.
Other sources reveal that discussions were taking place with two interested parties, but they are now finalizing details with the chosen company. There is still no information on which will be the first model launched by XPeng in Brazil. Currently, the brand features a lineup consisting of the sedans P5 and P7, the SUVs G6 and G9, and the minivan X9.

Chevrolet Tornado Van 2026 emerges as a compact van cheaper than many popular cars in Brazil, with a 1.5 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, 650 kg load capacity, 3.3 m³ of usable space, and fuel consumption of up to 18.1 km/l for about R$ 87,000 in tax-free conversion; an urban utility vehicle that Brazilians don’t have, but Mexico does.

Forget the basic popular car: used sedans like Passat CC, Kia Cerato, Nissan Altima, Mitsubishi Lancer, and Volvo S60 show that it’s still possible to buy more performance, comfort, and technology for less than many new compacts.
-
Used Honda Civic: 3 versions of the Japanese sedan with naturally aspirated engines of up to 155 hp, fuel consumption of up to 13.8 km/l, robust automatic transmission, and a reputation for reliable mechanics still dominate the used car market in Brazil.

Toyota Hilux becomes a ‘cargo truck’: automaker declares a new era for the pickup with greater capacity, reinforced chassis, 2.8 turbodiesel engine, raised suspension, 1,525 kg load capacity, and targets Ford Ranger Super Duty, which tows an impressive 4,500 kg.
The automaker positions itself as premium (although it charges less than Nio in China). Therefore, it would make sense to bet on the luxury and technology embedded in XPeng in Brazil. Two likely choices are the large SUV G6, as it is a car developed with the external market in mind, and the sedan P5, which introduces the use of LiDAR laser sensor technology and promises a level of driving autonomy above Tesla’s Full-Self Driving.
Volkswagen Ally’s Cars Showcase Abundant Luxury and Technology
The G6 from XPeng is a 4.75-meter long car with a wheelbase of 2.89m, a size similar to that of the Jeep Commander, which measures 4.76 meters. It is sold in two configurations: one using only a 296 hp rear motor with a 66 kWh battery, and the other with two motors, all-wheel drive, and a combined power of 487 hp, powered by an 87.5 kWh battery. The range can reach up to 700 km in the version with the larger battery.

The XPeng P5 is currently the brand’s crown jewel, as it is the first car that could theoretically offer level 4 autonomous driving. At this level, the vehicle can drive itself and, if the driver does not respond to a request to intervene, the car can safely stop. This is made possible due to the use of LiDAR laser sensor technology.
In total, it uses two LiDARs, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 radar sensors, and 12 high-resolution cameras, monitoring an area of 150 meters and 150º around the sedan.
Volkswagen Invests US$ 700 Million in XPeng
The P5 goes beyond the semi-autonomous system and brings interesting technologies, such as the cinema mode, which reclines the front seats until they are flat, allowing a mattress of air to be placed over them, and the use of an optional projector to display an image on the vehicle’s ceiling. XPeng’s performance has caught the attention even of international audiences.
Volkswagen recently announced that it has invested US$ 700 million to acquire 4.99% of the shares, along with a collaboration to develop two VW models for the Chinese market using the manufacturer’s platform and technology.
It is worth mentioning that XPeng delivered a total of 9,393 vehicles last month, an increase of 33% compared to last year. Its monthly deliveries also increased by 4.0% sequentially.
