Brazilian Youtuber From The Channel ‘Metal Projetos’ Developed An Electric Bike With A Treadmill Motor Capable Of Reaching 24km/h. The Inventor Has Already Developed Several Other Interesting Vehicles.
Have you ever thought about transforming that treadmill that’s been sitting unused in your house for years into something more interesting? That’s what the Brazilian Youtuber from the channel Metal Projetos, Schirleno Almeida, did, turning his regular bike into a treadmill motor electric bike. The project gained attention on social media this week.
Youtuber Explains How He Developed The Electric Bike With A Treadmill Ergometer Motor
Schirleno Almeida reports that he initially used an older, rusty 20-inch wheel for traction. After cleaning the material, he removed all the spokes from the rim to make strategic holes. The smaller rim was attached to the wheel of the electric bike using rubber pieces.
With the rear section almost finished, the next challenge was to determine the ideal location to install the treadmill ergometer motor. To support the propulsor, he welded two metal plates to the bike. The motor was then connected to the smaller rim via a belt, and a automotive pulley was added to increase the contact area of the belt, enhancing the transmitted force.

Chevrolet Tornado Van 2026 emerges as a compact van cheaper than many popular cars in Brazil, with a 1.5 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, 650 kg load capacity, 3.3 m³ of usable space, and fuel consumption of up to 18.1 km/l for about R$ 87,000 in tax-free conversion; an urban utility vehicle that Brazilians don’t have, but Mexico does.

Forget the basic popular car: used sedans like Passat CC, Kia Cerato, Nissan Altima, Mitsubishi Lancer, and Volvo S60 show that it’s still possible to buy more performance, comfort, and technology for less than many new compacts.
-
Used Honda Civic: 3 versions of the Japanese sedan with naturally aspirated engines of up to 155 hp, fuel consumption of up to 13.8 km/l, robust automatic transmission, and a reputation for reliable mechanics still dominate the used car market in Brazil.

Toyota Hilux becomes a ‘cargo truck’: automaker declares a new era for the pickup with greater capacity, reinforced chassis, 2.8 turbodiesel engine, raised suspension, 1,525 kg load capacity, and targets Ford Ranger Super Duty, which tows an impressive 4,500 kg.
Equipped with a 450W controller and a 36-volt battery, the treadmill motor electric bike performed excellently, showing outstanding power. However, since the propulsor supports higher voltages, Schirleno opted for a 45-volt battery. In a maximum speed test, he reached 24 km/h.
It is worth noting that this speed could be higher if the battery provides a higher voltage. On steeper climbs, it is necessary to pedal since the motor does not have enough power to tackle them alone.
Other Projects Gain Notoriety
In addition to this treadmill motor electric bike, the Youtuber has developed several other models with different motors. Among them is the electric bike with a Makita marble saw motor. With the tire in the air, this version developed by Schirleno was able to reach over 100 km/h. In this project, the battery of a car was attached to the rear of the electric bike.
However, due to not having enough torque, in tests conducted on the track, the vehicle reached a topspeed of only 30 km/h, which is incredibly high compared to the electric bikes sold on the market. Among other innovative projects developed by the Youtuber are an electric baby stroller, a hybrid bike, an electric wheelbarrow, a friction-powered bike with a brush cutter, and much more.
Reddit User Develops Bike Powered By Washing Machine Motor
A very creative engineer used parts from a washing machine to develop a modern electric bike based on a common model that he had owned for 20 years. The unique creation was posted on Reddit, a social network that functions like a forum, identifying himself as Jimminecraftguy. Electric models are currently in fashion as they are strongly linked to sustainability and environmental preservation.
The electric bike developed by the user was nicknamed The Spin Cycle, which translates to something like Centrifuge Bike in our language. To develop it, the inventor used a 1,100 W washing machine motor attached to the center of the bike frame.
After that, it was simply a matter of passing the vehicle’s chain through the propulsor’s gear, which, when activated, moves the chain, propelling the rear wheel of the vehicle. According to Jim, his electric bike can reach speeds of up to 110 km/h, enough to make the rider break a cold sweat.
