Through an operation that prioritizes safety, efficiency, and sustainability, the ore extracted by Atlantic Nickel has significant copper and cobalt content, which increases the sales value. The company is one of the largest open-pit sulfide nickel mines in the world and the only one of this segment operating in Brazil.
Beyond the significant expansion of nickel production and commercialization, the success of the business is directly linked to ongoing efforts in conservation, as in addition to exporting ore to help the world have sources of clean energy, Atlantic Nickel maintains the purpose of preserving the environment and respecting the community to which it belongs.
Atlantic Nickel Is the Only Producer of Sulfide Nickel in Brazil
As the largest producer of sulfide nickel in the country, Atlantic Nickel has been operating since October 2019 in the extraction of the essential ore for manufacturing electric vehicle batteries. More than 1,700 direct jobs have been generated by the business, and R$ 151 million have been injected into purchases and contracts with suppliers in Bahia from 2018 to 2020.
The projection of the company is to double its production capacity, with the start of underground operations at the Santa Rita Mine, scheduled for 2028, which will extend the mine’s useful life from eight to 34 years (8 years of open-pit mine + 26 years of underground mine). According to the Preliminary Economic Evaluation, approximately US$ 355 million is expected to be invested during the first five years of this new phase.
Moreover, Atlantic Nickel is already celebrating the recent discovery of a new deposit with significant nickel resource potential just 26 km away, and in the same geological belt as the currently operating Santa Rita Mine.
