Technological Development Is in Constant Evolution and With That, Society Seeks More Sustainable Alternatives to Reduce Environmental Impacts.
One of these alternatives has been gaining prominence in recent years: green hydrogen. And it is with the aim of discussing the potential of this energy source that the Senate will hold a public hearing on November 17, 2021, with the theme “The Green Hydrogen Sector and the Development of Technology”.
The debate will be promoted by the Special Commission for the Debate of Public Policies on Green Hydrogen, which is chaired by Senator Cid Gomes (PDT-CE). Among the topics to be addressed are the exploration, production, and use of green hydrogen as a cleaner renewable energy source across various sectors of the economy.
Several experts on the subject have already confirmed their presence, including the General Coordinator of Sectorial Technologies at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Rafael Silva Menezes; the professor of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Program at Coppe/UFRJ, Paulo Emílio de Miranda; the pro-rector of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), Augusto Teixeira de Albuquerque; the professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP), Thiago Lopes; the general head of Embrapa Agroenergia, Alexandre Alonso Alves; and the technical director of Braspell Bioenergia, Afonso Bertucci.

In addition to these specialists, the commission also invited representatives from Petrobras and the Federal Council of Chemistry to participate in the debate, but the attendance of these guests has not yet been confirmed.
The green hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind energy, for example. This process allows for hydrogen to be generated without carbon emissions, making it a clean and renewable energy source.
Due to its versatility, green hydrogen has great potential for use in various sectors of the economy, such as in industry, transportation, and the residential sector, potentially replacing more polluting energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
However, despite its versatility and potential, there is still much to be developed concerning green hydrogen.
Therefore, it is important to promote debates and public hearings with specialists in order to discuss public policies and measures aimed at the development and enhancement of this technology.
The public hearing on the “Green Hydrogen Sector and the Development of Technology” will be held in Room 19 of the Alexandre Costa Wing, in the Senate, at 2 PM. The event is open to the public and will be broadcast live on the internet, allowing more people to access and participate in the debate.
In summary, the public hearing promoted by the Senate aims to discuss the potential of green hydrogen as a source of clean and renewable energy across various sectors of the economy. Green hydrogen is a more sustainable alternative to polluting energy sources, and the debate aims to discuss public policies and measures for the development and enhancement of this technology.
