Initiative Aims for Renewable Energy Self-Production, Contributing to Carbon Neutrality at Mercedes-Benz Factories in Brazil

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, in partnership with Raízen Power, announced an ambitious project for the installation of a 117.54 MW solar plant, located in the municipality of Santana do Matos, Rio Grande do Norte. The project, named Dunamis, marks a new stage in the truck and bus manufacturer’s commitment to sustainability and the use of renewable energy, aligned with Daimler Truck’s global goal of achieving carbon neutrality, according to Canal Solar.

Large-Scale Solar Plant in Rio Grande do Norte

The Dunamis Project is one of the largest solar plants in the state and is being implemented over an area of 600 hectares. Composed of four photovoltaic systems, the total installed capacity of the solar plant is 117.54 MW will allow Mercedes-Benz to adopt the energy self-production model. This means that the company will use 100% renewable energy in its operations, meeting all the energy needs of its factories in São Bernardo do Campo in São Paulo state and Juiz de Fora in Minas Gerais.

The Objective of Mercedes-Benz

With the project’s completion, Mercedes-Benz estimates to avoid the emission of approximately 20,000 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to the annual supply for 48,000 homes. Furthermore, the solar plant represents significant savings in the company’s electricity costs, reinforcing its commitment to more sustainable operational practices.

Raízen Power, a partner in the project, also stands out for implementing social actions in the city of Santana do Matos. Among the initiatives are the renovation of the local school’s lighting, the construction of shelters at bus stops along 20 kilometers of road, and providing free electricity for some public units of the city hall. Additionally, the project brought job creation and workforce training in partnership with SENAI.
