The Four Sections of the Hull of Submarine Humaitá Are Now at ICN, Coming from UFEM, Also Located in Itaguaí. The Welding Phase for Closing the Hull Begins Now
The construction works for the second conventional submarine of the PROSUB Program, the “Humaitá,” are in full swing. Today (06/19), ICN, Itaguaí Construções Navais, from Itaguaí (RJ), completed the transfer of sections 3 and 4.
The sections were built at the UFEM factory, also in Itaguaí, and were the last to be received at ICN. Now the shipyard will begin the final joining phase of the sections aiming to close the vessel’s hull.
As published by Click Petróleo e Gás, section 1 and section 2 were already transferred to the ICN shipyard on April 25 and May 29, respectively.
These last two transferred sections make up the bow section of the submarine, where important compartments for the submarine’s operation are located, such as the control room, masts, periscope, and the torpedo launch tubes.
